Q1 2019 Recap: Parolees in Cook County convicted of crimes against persons

There were 218 offenders convicted of crimes against persons released on parole in Cook County during the first quarter of 2019, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the South Cook News.

The data shows that 207 men and 11 women were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for crimes against persons, six were veterans, and the median age was 35. The youngest parolee was a 20-year-old man sentenced in 2018, and the oldest was a 64-year-old man sentenced in 2014.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was James Walker. He was convicted in 2008 when he was 19 years old. He is now 29.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The following table shows how many offenders convicted of crimes against persons were paroled during the first quarter of 2019 in each Illinois county.
