Alsip, Hazelgreen, Oak Lawn School District 126 Board of Education met Aug. 8.

CALL TO ORDER 

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 

The Board and audience stood for the Pledge of Allegiance.

ROLL CALL 

Secretary Pierce called the roll.

Present:

Joe LaChica, Pro-Tem President 

Lori Pierce, Secretary

Absent:

Marigrace Sinnott-Snooks, Kim Powers

Craig Gwaltney, Superintendent Steve Gress, Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations

APPROVAL OF MINUTES 

Harry Tannehill moved, seconded by Therese Zaker, “To approve the minutes of the June 13, 2019 Regular Board Meeting”. Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: Waldrom, Tannehill, Pierce, LaChica, Zaker. Nay: none. The motion carried 5-0.

CONSENT AGENDA 

Harry Tannehill moved, seconded by Lori Pierce, “To approve the Consent Agenda”. Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: Tannehill, Pierce, Zaker, LaChica, Waldrom. Nay: none. The motion carried 5-0.

FOIA REQUESTS 

Steve Gress reported from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Services, Open the Books USA, Deltek, Empower Illinois and WEBZ. We have responded in the required timeframe.

AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION 

Nicole Leggett presented Using Animals in the Educational Program – Therapy Dogs.

FINANCIAL 

Donna Waldrom moved, seconded by Lori Pierce, “To ratify the July bills paid by the District and approved by the Superintendent for the dates of June 5 through July 19, 2019”. ”. Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: Tannehill, Pierce, Zaker, LaChica, Waldrom. Nay: none. The motion carried 5-0.

EDUCATIONAL REPORT 

Craig Gwaltney reported that the enrollment numbers remain the same as previous year. To date District 126 has approximately 214 families still needing to register.

OLD BUSINESS 

Craig Gwaltney reported on the progress of the summer construction projects which includes the Early Childhood Center at Lane School, the Stony Creek kindergarten classrooms and the renovations at the Hazelgreen gym. The EC Center is pushing forward and should be completed by the first day of school. The final walk through is scheduled for Monday. Stony Creek kindergarten classrooms are completed, furnished and ready to go. Hazelgreen gym will also be completed by the start of school.

CLOSED SESSION 

Harry Tannehill moved, seconded by Lori Pierce, “To go into Closed Session to consider the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees in the district or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity”. Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: LaChica, Tannehill, Pierce, Waldrom, Zaker. Nay: none. The motion carried 5-0 at 8:10 p.m.

Harry Tannehill moved, seconded by Therese Zaker, “To come out of Closed Session”. Upon roll call, the vote was as follows: Aye: LaChica, Sinnott-Snooks, Powers, McLaughlin, Tannehill, Pierce, Zaker. Nay: none. The motion carried 5-0 at 9:05p.m.

ADJOURNMENT 

Harry Tannehill moved, seconded by Lori Pierce, "To adjourn the meeting". Upon roll call, the vote as follows: Aye: Tannehill, Pierce, Zaker, LaChica, Waldrom. Nay: None. The motion carried 5-0 at 9:10 p.m.
