Worth School District 127 Committee of the Whole met Oct. 28.
Here is the minutes provided by the committee:
1. CALL TO ORDER
President Drew Sernus called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Drew Sernus, Dave Blanks, Meghan Sisk, Michelle Egan, Danette Keeler, Vince Flores, Stephanie Peltzer
Administrators: Dr. Mark Fleming
Others Present: Jill Moore, Recording Secretary
3. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Drew Sernus led the Pledge of Allegiance.
4. CITIZENS' REMARKS
There were no remarks made.
5. ESTIMATE PROPERTY TAX LEVY
Cindy Dykas reviewed a copy of a PowerPoint presentation she distributed that outlined the 2019 tax levy process. She explained the following: 1) definitions and terms; 2) why the levy process is so important; 3) four main variables of the levy; 4) 10-year historical tax rate data; 5) tax levy verses tax extension; 6) Funds supported by the tax levy; 7) Limited Bonds: why a rate does not apply 8) 2019 Tax levy scenarios. Cindy Dykas explained to the Board that she will provide another update at the November 13, 2019 Board Meeting.
6. BOARD DISCUSSION
a. Strategic Planning with Jeff Cohn Proposed Date
i. Dr. Fleming engaged the Board in conversation regarding the upcoming Strategic Plan Meeting. Dr. Fleming stated that due to schedules and the upcoming holidays, it would be best to schedule their first initial meeting in January 2020. Board Members agreed and voted to schedule their first meeting with Jeff Cohn on January 11, 2020 from 9 a.m.-12p.m.
b. February 12, 2020 Board of Education Meeting
i. Dr. Fleming noted that he will be attending the AASA's National Conference on Education in San Diego, CA on February 13-14, 2020. Due to the conference starting on Thursday morning, he will need to fly the day before and requested the Board approve moving the February Board Meeting to February 19th Board Members approved the move of the Board Meeting.
7. BOARDDOC TRAINING
Dennis Rohlfing was present from BoardDocs to train Board Members on the process of accessing Board Packets. BoardDocs is a cloud-based service that provides efficient public access to meeting agendas and minutes. It can also serve as a portal to the District's Policy Manual. In addition, BoardDocs provides a secure login area for Board members and District staff.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Meghan Sisk moved to adjourn the meeting 8:20 p.m. Dave Blanks seconded the motion.
