Virgil I Grissom Middle School Grade 6 Kirby School District 140 Board of Education met Nov. 21.

Opening of Meeting.

Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance. At 7:00 P.M., President Martelli called to order the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education, Kirby School District 140, Cook County, led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Roll Call. Board Members present: Dr. Jacqueline Kelly-McHale, Mrs. Lisa Strand, Mr. John Lutz, Mrs. Carol DeMicheal, Mr. Chuck Augustyniak, and Mr. Thomas Martelli; Board Members absent: Mrs. Deborah Kowalski. Others present: Dr. Shawn Olson, Superintendent; Mr. Michael Andreshak, Director of Business Services and Mrs. Karen Jamraz, Recording Secretary.

Correspondence. Incoming: Letter received regarding testing; Outgoing: None

Approval of Minutes Summary of Previous Meeting - Regular Meeting of October 17, 2019. It was moved by Mr. Augustyniak and seconded by Mrs. DeMicheal and Dr. Kelly-McHale to approve the Minutes Summary of Previous Meeting - Regular Meeting of October 17, 2019, as presented. The voice vote was: Ayes: 6; Nays: 0; Abstains: 0. The motion carried; whereupon President Martelli, as attested by Secretary DeMicheal, affixed their signatures to said minutes summary.

Public Comment.

Recognition of Public. No one wished to be recognized.

Financial Report.

Monthly Expenditures Consent Agenda. It was moved by Mr. Augustyniak and seconded by Dr. Kelly-McHale to approve expenditures including payroll, accounts payable, procurement card in the aggregate amount of $3,888,819.00. The roll call vote was: Ayes: Dr. Kelly-McHale, Mr. Lutz, Mrs. Strand, Mrs. DeMicheal, Mr. Augustyniak and Mr. Martelli; Nays: None; Abstains: None. The President declared the motion carried whereupon Mr. Martelli, as attested by Secretary DeMicheal, affixed their signatures to said expenditure report.

Statement of Revenues and Expenditures. Mr. Andreshak presented the report.

Administrative Reports.

Superintendent.

Board Conference. Dr. Olson reported that the Annual School Board Conference begins tomorrow, November 22nd through November 24th.

Parent Teacher Conferences. Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, November 25th from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and Tuesday, November 26th from 8:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. Dr. Olson said that he would be adjusting his work hours on Monday so he can be available if needed during the evening conference hours.

School Board Members Day. Dr. Olson reported that November 15th is designated as "School Board Members Appreciation Day" in Illinois. He wanted to recognize and thank each of our Board Members for all that they do.

Director of Business Services.

2018-19 Annual Audit Report. Mr. Ed McCormick of Mueller & Company presented the 2018-19 annual audit report stating that Kirby School District 140 continues to be fiscally responsible and maintains strong fund balances while renovating buildings and remaining debt free. He commended Mr. Andreshak and his team for their efforts to keep things are as they should be. The Annual Financial Report for this audit will be posted for the public to view on our District website.

FOIA Request. Mr. Andreshak received one FOIA request from ABC news who wanted information on vaping in our District.

Unfinished Business. There was no unfinished business.

New Business.

Board Reports. Mr. Martelli reminded everyone that because of the holiday, the December Regular Board Meeting will be held the second Thursday of December on December 12, 2019 at 6:30 P.M.

Summary of the Committee of the Whole Meeting of November 5, 2019. Mr. Martelli reported that there was a Committee of the Whole Meeting held on November 5, 2019 at Prairie View. During this meeting Dr. Olson conducted a presentation explaining the tax levy. After the presentation, those that attended had a chance to ask any questions that they had.

Property Tax Relief Grant Application Fiscal Year 2020. Based upon the recommendation of Administration, it was moved by Dr. Kelly-McHale and seconded by Mrs. Strand to process the Property Tax Relief Grant Application FY 2020, as presented. The roll call vote was: Ayes: Mr. Lutz, Mrs. Strand, Mrs. DeMicheal, Dr. Kelly-McHale, Mr. Augustyniak and Mr. Martelli; Nays: None; Abstains: None. The President declared the motion carried.

Closed Session. There was no reason to enter closed session.

Personnel - Consent Agenda. It was moved by Mr. Augustyniak and seconded by Mrs. DeMicheal to approve the presented items on consent agenda. The roll call vote was: Ayes: Mrs. Strand, Mrs. DeMicheal, Mr. Augustyniak, Dr. Kelly-McHale, Mr. Lutz and Mr. Martelli; Nays: None; Abstains: None. The President declared the motion carried. Adjournment. It was moved by Mr. Augustyniak and seconded by Mrs. DeMicheal that the Regular Meeting be adjourned. The voice vote was: Ayes: 6; Nays: 0. The motion carried; whereupon President Martelli declared the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education adjourned by 7:34 P.M.
