VILLAGE OF EVERGREEN PARK: A Message From the Mayor for the Mothers Day Weekend

Village of Evergreen Park issued the following announcement on May 8.

Hello Friends,

All of a sudden, we are in the middle of Nurses Week.

I think you can agree that these good folks need to be celebrated for far more than one week. As I told you the other day, we would like to have a parade in the Fall that specifically honors them, along with all medical staff/essential workers/first responders. But for now, all we can say is THANK YOU.

One can only think about how many female nurses are also wives and mothers. How many of these ladies have had to spend far more time at the hospitals in the past few months than at their own home? Countless. Can you imagine the turmoil in their hearts?

So now we come to Mother’s Day Weekend. Likewise, I think you can agree that these wonderful women need to be celebrated for far more than just one day.

On this day, we remember our childhoods; the bandaids being placed on our knees; the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches; getting tucked in at night; the shoulder we had to lean on; the kind and reassuring words that pulled us through every crisis in our lives. Even later in our lives, calling that phone number, and when she answers, you say “Hey, Mom”.

These, the same words that we say to ourselves silently if she is no longer with us.

"Hey, Mom"

To all Moms this weekend, I say THANK YOU to you and please enjoy your day. Let your family spoil you.

And to all families, I ask you to do everything that you can for the true head of the household this Sunday. I know this peculiar time makes celebrations a little different than in years past.

But at the heart of it is to find a way to celebrate these fine ladies and to let them know how important they have been to you throughout your life. It comes with more than a flower, more than a balloon, more than a greeting card. Even if it has to take place in a phone call or a Facetime video, these heartfelt spoken words will make her day, rain or shine: "We Love You". Don’t lose that opportunity while you have it.

Friends...keep well, keep safe, and I’ll talk to you next week!

MAYOR JAMES SEXTON
