Village of South Chicago Heights Board of Trustees met June 1.

In recognition of the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis, the Village is making every effort to ensure the health, safety and welfare of its residents. To avoid the transmittance of the COVID-19 virus, residents of the Village are invited to attend this meeting telephonically.
Specifically, residents were encouraged to call into the following teleconference line (712) 775 7031 in order to listen to the live meeting. After dialing the teleconference line, they will be prompted to enter the following conference ID: 245-795. After they have entered this conference ID, they would be able to listen to the meeting.
A Regular Board of Trustee meeting was held on Monday, May 18, 2020, by teleconference and at the Village Hall 3317 Chicago Road, South Chicago Heights, Illinois. Mayor Terry Matthews called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Matthews requested the Village Clerk, Catherine Linan, to call the roll. The following were present:

TRUSTEE/COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Fire Chief Vlietstra stated that there were 132 calls for fire services in the month of May and summarized the different type of calls.
Police Chief Joyce stated that there were 757 calls for police service in May and stated that he was proud of all the officers and the hard work they have been doing for South Chicago Heights.

ORDINANCE 2020-ORD-15: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE SOUTH CHICAGO HEIGHTS CODE OF ORDINANCES CONCERNING WATER UTILITY RATES: Mayor Matthews presented the ordinance. Trustee Fiorenzo motioned to approve the ordinance seconded, by Trustee Fazzini. There being no further discussion, the roll call vote being:

ORDINANCE 2020-16: AN ORDINANCE OF THE VILLAGE OF SOUTH CHICAGO HEIGHTS, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS, AUTHORIZING AND APPROVING A REDEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT BY AND BETWEEN THE VILLAGE OF SOUTH CHICAGO HEIGHTS AND GANDAJI CHAVDA (LA PETITE PLAZA); Mayor Matthews presented the ordinance and explained that this was being paid from TIF funds. Trustee Ross asked about signing of the agreement. Discussion ensued. Trustee Stanton motioned to approve the ordinance seconded, by Trustee Bosco. Attorney Welch summarized the new agreement. Trustee Ross motioned to approve the ordinance seconded, by Trustee Fiorenzo. There being no further discussion, the roll call vote being:

ORDINANCE 2020-ORD-18: AN ORDINANCE OF SOUTH CHICAGO HEIGHTS, COOK COUNTY ILLINOIS SUPPORTING A STATE OF EMERGENCY AND APPROVING EXECUTIVE ORDERS PROTECTING THE PUBLIC HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE AND PROVIDING RELIEF TO THE RESIDENTS AND BUSINESS COMMUNITY: Mayor Matthews presented the ordinance. Attorney Welch stated that this ordinance was renewing the Governor State of Emergency and ratifying 2 ordinances that were adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic. RESOLUTION 2020-R-12: A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE OF SOUTH CHICAGO HEIGHTS, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS, AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE VILLAGE OF SOUTH CHICAGO HEIGHTS, ILLINOIS AND THE MEMBERS OF MABAS DIVISION 27: Mayor Matthews presented the resolution. Fire Chief Vlietstra summarized that this agreement will allow the department to borrow a vehicle if needed. Trustee Fazzini motioned to approve the resolution seconded, by Trustee Ross. MAYOR'S REPORT: Mayor Matthews thanked all department heads and office staff for all their hard work and assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic and now with the protest going on nationwide. Mayor Matthews stated that he was closing village hall for one more day.
