Illinois' 6th Congressional District issued the following announcement on July 6.
Today, U.S. Representative Sean Casten (IL-06) announced that 18,634 small businesses in Illinois’ 6th District received a total of $641,401,189 from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). This PPP funding helped small businesses retain 84,080 jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. PPP loans were made available through the CARES act, legislation Casten supported that provided $2 trillion in aid to individuals, businesses, and states.
Casten said, “Small businesses are the foundation of our communities and employ almost half of the U.S.’s total workforce. Their success is vital to improving our economy and getting people back to work. As small businesses continue to navigate this uncertain time, it’s essential we provide them with the necessary resources, and I’m pleased that over 18,000 small businesses in the 6th district were able to utilize this program.”
Small businesses have until August 8, 2020 to apply for PPP funding.
Casten has been a vocal leader in urging House Leadership to include immediate relief for our small businesses, specifically the need for additional PPP funds. These recommendations are a result of conversations with Illinois business owners during the three webinars Casten has hosted with Illinois SBA District Director, Robert Steiner. Casten also launched a small business resource page on his website to provide information to small businesses and nonprofits across Illinois 6th District.
