Chicago (71,441 cases) and Cook County (55,551 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,879, while Cook County recorded 2,186 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 4,087,122, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 46,482 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 110,501 were male and 121,275 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,345, while female deaths stood at 3,714.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,699 Asians, 3,699 whites, 2,151 African-Americans, 1,632 Hispanics, and 211 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
