Tinley Park VFD responds to 140 fires in 2018

Tinley Park Volunteer Fire Department responded to 870 calls in 2018 - 6.2 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Tinley Park included 140 fires - 70 structure fires, 22 vehicle fires and 48 other fires. The fire department also responded to 12 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $503,242 in fire loss - or about $3,595 per fire.

The department also received 718 false calls, including 11 malicious calls and 707 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury and one civilian fire-related death.
