South Holland FD responds to 168 fires in 2018

South Holland Fire District responded to 609 calls in 2018 - 6.5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in South Holland included 168 fires - 108 structure fires, 31 vehicle fires and 29 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,323,210 in fire loss - or about $7,876 per fire.

The department also received 437 false calls, including 16 malicious calls and 421 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury and two civilian fire-related deaths. Additionally, three fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The South Holland Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 23 active employees and 13 retired or inactive employees, was $428,174 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,693 for every fire in 2017.
