Q2 2020 Recap: Parolees in Cook County convicted of crimes involving weapons

There were 460 offenders convicted of crimes involving weapons released on parole in Cook County during the second quarter of 2020, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the South Cook News.

The data shows that 452 men and eight women were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for crimes involving weapons, two were veterans, and the median age was 31. The youngest parolee was a 19-year-old man sentenced in 2020, and the oldest was a 71-year-old man sentenced in 2006.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Maurice Collins. He was convicted in 2002 when he was 31 years old. He is now 49.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
