City of Palos Heights Public Safety Committee Met Jan. 26.

Call to Order/ Roll Call

The Public Safety Committee was held at the Palos Heights City Hall. Chairman McGovern called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. In attendance were Chairman McGovern, Alderman Clifford, and Alderman Key. Alderman Kramarski was absent. Also in attendance were Chief Yott, Deputy Chief Czajkowski, Deputy Chief Yott, IT Coordinator Chuck Hankus and Recording Secretary Liz Gutierrez.

Approval of Minutes

Alderman McGovern moved to approve the minutes of the October 27, 2020 Public Safety meeting, seconded by Alderman Clifford. All in favor. Motion carried.

Police Chief Yott reported as follows:

661 total calls for service December, 2020

TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT

MISCELLANEOUS REPORTS FOR MAY

a) Police Department Budget Report - see attached

b) SafeSpeed Report – 152 violations

c) MSI Report –0 citations issued

d) Training Report - 172 hours

e) DUI Summary - 0 arrests

Chairman McGovern asked for an update on the armed robbery that took place at the Dunkin Donuts on Harlem last week. Deputy Chief Yott and Deputy Chief Czajkowski report that the department is currently working with six other towns that were also affected by possibly the same suspects. It is still currently being investigated.

Chairman McGovern also asked about any new local accidents. There was one recently on 122nd and 70th Avenue in the intersection. Weather may have been an issue in this accident. Alderman Clifford received phone calls from concerned residents regarding putting stop signs back in the intersection. Discussion ensued.

Correspondence/Employee Recognition

∙ Several Palos Heights residents brought in Christmas cookies, brownies etc., to show their appreciation to the PHPD.

∙ A resident gave the PHPD a $200 gift certificate from Pops to show her gratitude to the force, her brother was a former Chicago Police Officer.

∙ PHPD received a very nice letter from LaRabida Children's Hospital expressing their gratitude to everyone that donated presents and gift cards on behalf of their holiday giving tree. They received nearly 4k in donations.

Alderman Key stated that he is glad the police department was able to get COVID-19 vaccines.

There being no further business, Chairman McGovern made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Alderman Clifford. All in favor. Motion carried.
