Village of Evergreen Park issued the following announcement on June 25

Evergreen Park Mayor Kelly Burke is making a call to residents to help the Village thank our Hometown Heroes.

“Many Evergreen Park families have a loved one serving in the military. We are asking for a current picture of your Hometown Hero, so that we can update our display wall inside the foyer of the Village Hall,” the Mayor said. “The program has been in place for quite a few years, but it’s time to revamp and refresh the board so that we can better reach out to those families”.

Residents with family members in the military are asked to email a photo of their Hometown Hero to epinf@hotmail.com in a jpg format, along with the individual’s name and rank.  The name and rank will be digitally added to the photo, printed, and then displayed in the foyer.  “We will also create a photo album on our website that will honor those heroes virtually as well, so that you can see and salute them any time,” Burke added.

Over the last fifteen years, the Village has collected an archive of our servicemen and women. These photos will be removed and kept in a special scrapbook for viewing at the Village Hall, as well as having a digital photo album available on the website.

Emailed photos are preferred, but photos can be dropped off at the Village Hall. Please make sure they are in a sealed envelope, along with the individual's name and rank.  The Village will scan those photos and keep the originals in file.

“Recognizing our military families is important, because we have traditionally asked them to lead our Independence Day Parade, “ the Mayor explained.  “When the parade comes back in 2022, we will once again ask them for the privilege of leading our line.”
