City of Palos Hills City Council met May 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

1) CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Bennett called the City Council Meeting to order at 7:00p.m.

2) PLEDGE TO THE FLAG: Mayor Bennett led everyone in the Pledge to the Flag.

3) ROLL CALL: Upon roll call the following Aldermen responded:

PRESENT: Price, Brachman, Lebarre, Marrotta, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak

ABSENT: None

4) QUORUM: Mayor Bennett declared a quorum was present.

5) READING OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES:

Ald. Kleefisch MOVED to approve the City Council Meeting Minutes dated, May 6, 2021 as presented. SECONDED by Ald. O’Connell. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Brachman, Lebarre, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price

NAY: None

ABSTAIN: Marrotta

MOTION CARRIED

6) CITIZENS PETITION: None this evening.

7) CITIZENS HEARING:

Mayor Bennett, the meeting is open to the public for any comments or questions.

Resident, Malgorzata Klich, who resides at 10012 Wood Lane approached Council and thanked Ald. Marrotta for his time served as Alderman of the 4th Ward. Ms. Klich requested that Anna Biedrzycki be appointed as Alderman of the 4th Ward, and based upon a petition circulated there are 53 registered voters of the 4th Ward who are in support of Anna being named the new Alderman.

Mayor Bennett stated that the position by statute is a recommendation from the Mayor to City Council; the candidate can submit her resume to the Office of the Mayor and he will take it under consideration.

There were no other comments or questions from the public; the public portion of the meeting was closed.

8) REPORTS & COMMUNICATIONS FROM MAYOR AND OTHER CITY OFFICIALS:

A. CITY CLERK: No report this evening.

B. CITY ATTORNEY: In the absence of City Attorney Pappas, there was no report this evening.

C. MAYOR: No report this evening.

9) PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, COMMUNICATIONS, RESOLUTIONS, AND ORDINANCES BY ALDERMEN:

A. BUILDING & LICENSING:

Ald. Price had no report this evening.

B. CITY ADMINISTRATION/GOLF:

Ald. Marrotta MOVED to approve a Fence Committee request for 7335 W. 103rd Street. SECONDED by Ald. Pasek. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Lebarre, Marrotta, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Brachman

NAY: None

C. COMMUNITY RESOURCES:

Ald. Nowak reminded all to refrain from fishing this summer at Bennett Park so that the new fish can acclimate to the lake and get bigger.

Ald. Nowak announced that the PATSE bus program will provide programs to seniors and to those with disabilities who reside and travel within Palos Township and they are always accepting new riders; the bus program operates Monday-Friday 9:00am-2:00pm for more information please call 430- 3822.

D. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:

Ald. O’Connell announced that there are four new businesses that have been granted their business license; EZ Electronics at 10703 S. Roberts Rd., Taco Jrs Mexican Restaurant at 9736 S. Roberts Rd., Omar Basha at 7213 W. 103rd St., and Memeti’s Pizza at 8803 W. 95th St. Unit B.

E. FINANCE:

Ald. Lebarre MOVED to authorize the expenditure of a Vendor Warrant dated, May 20, 2021 in the amount of $526,560.19. SECONDED by Ald. Brachman. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Marrotta, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Brachman, Lebarre

NAY: None

MOTION CARRIED

Ald. Lebarre reported that he attended the Hills Chamber event on Saturday and thanked the Palos Hills Police department for being out there on their own time.

Ald. Lebarre and Ald. Pasek will be putting up a remembrance for Memorial Day at 99th and 88th Avenue between May 28th and May 31st. Stop by to remember those who gave their lives.

F. LEGISLATION & ORDINANCES:

Ald. Abed MOVED to grant a driveway request at 8141 W. 98th Street. SECONDED by Ald. Pasek. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Brachman, Lebarre, Marrotta

NAY: None

G. PARKS:

Ald. Stratton noted that the Resource and Recreation department is still accepting registration for day camp. Camp will be offered in two week sessions and run Monday-Friday from 9:00am 4:00pm. The department is offering a full day camp as well as a shorter day tot camp that runs Monday-Thursday.

Ald. Stratton reported that the Recreation department in cooperation with the Green Hills Public Library district will be having a free movie in the park at the Bennett Park amphitheater on Friday, June 18th at 7:00pm, the movie shown will be Onward, make sure to bring chairs and blankets.

Ald. Stratton announced that the grand opening of the new Public Works building facility and Bennett Park will be taking place on Saturday, June 19th from 10:00am-2:00pm, there will be tours of the new building, face painters, and an acoustic music performance. There will also be free hot dogs while supplies last.

H. PLANNING & ZONING:

Ald. Nowak reported that on Tuesday, December 1st the Zoning Board met to consider a variance for a single family residential addition to a house at 8712 Vail Drive; the Zoning Board was unable to come to a decision at that time and requested that the owners of the house prepare additional documents for a continuance of the hearing to be held at a later date. The owners of that property have come back with additional information requested by the Zoning Board.

Ald. Nowak MOVED to set a hearing date for Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 7:00pm via Zoom for the Zoning Board. SECONDED by Ald. O’Connell. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Brachman, Lebarre, Marrotta, O’Connell

NAY: None

Ald. Nowak MOVED to schedule a ZBA hearing for Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 7:00pm for a side yard variance at 9938 S. 86th Avenue. SECONDED by Ald. Kleefisch. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Brachman, Lebarre, Marrotta, Kleefisch, O’Connell

NAY: None

Ald. Nowak MOVED to grant a Special Use Permit for 10717 S. Roberts Road. SECONDED by Ald. Price. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

Ald. Nowak announced that the Plan Commission meeting minutes for 10454 S. Harlem Avenue have been distributed to all, and will be voted upon at the next City Council meeting.

I. PUBLIC SAFETY:

Ald. Kleefisch reiterated that Police Chief Cucio has indicated that the Palos Hills Police Department now has a Facebook page to enhance communication with residents. More information will be forthcoming in the next City newsletter.

J. PUBLIC WORKS/SEWER & WATER:

Ald. Brachman had no report this evening.

10) REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES: None this evening.

11) UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None this evening.

12) MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS: Mayor Bennett recognized the retirement of Alderman Joe Marrotta.

Mayor Bennett spoke of Ald. Marrotta’s accomplishments through his fourteen years as Alderman of the Fourth Ward and thanked him for his commitment and wished him good luck.

Ald. Marrotta thanked everyone for the support, the friendships that were made, and those that mentored him along the way.

All Aldermen said their farewells and extended wishes of good luck to Alderman Marrotta.

13) ADJORNMENT:

No further business, Mayor Bennett entertained a motion to adjourn. SO MOVED by Ald. Marrotta. SECONDED by Ald. Stratton. By voice vote, all voted AYE.

The Meeting adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
