Village partners with Eligo for Electric Aggregation Program

The Village’s current electric aggregation contract with MC2 expires in October. As a result, the Village recently signed a one-year agreement with Eligo Energy following a competitive bid process. Residents and small business owners will pay exactly the same ComEd rate, which is variable and subject to change on a monthly basis.

The Village approved its electric aggregation program in 2011 and 2012 by taking the necessary steps via referendum. The more residents who participate, the better rates the Village can achieve, which is why this is an opt-out program versus an opt-in program. To date, there are roughly 19,000 accounts in the Village’s electric aggregation program. Participants of the program receive the lowest possible pricing and will never pay any hidden fees to join or leave the program. This year, the Village also will receive an added benefit of a $70,000 civic contribution from Eligo.

The cost of serving each electric account varies greatly based on usage patterns. Some ratepayer accounts will remain with the ComEd supply service and others will be served by Eligo, but the net effect is identical for all. Just as in previous programs, ratepayers may choose to opt out.

Eligo will mail notices to residents and small businesses on Aug. 11. Depending on your circumstance, you will either receive an opt-out notice, an informative only/opt-in notice, or a return to ComEd service notice. Whether remaining with ComEd or enrolling with Eligo Energy, all residents are considered members of the Tinley Park Aggregation program.

Village receives CMAQ Grant for bike path

The Village recently learned it has received a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) grant for the 84th Avenue and 179th Street multi-use path extension project. The grant provides funds for transportation projects designed to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality.

The multi-use path will provide a safe and emission-free route to the 80th Avenue train station, parks/playgrounds, White Water Canyon Water Park, fitness centers, recreational facilities and various commercial businesses. The path extension would close the gap between the south 183rd Street trail and north 179th Street trail. In turn, this would provide hundreds of residents that live near the 183rd Street trail a new alternative route to the places previous listed.

The proposed trail begins south of the existing 179th Street trail, with a street crossing approximately 180 feet west of Iroquois Trace Road. The path continues south toward Nielsen Drive and slowly begins turning west towards the Canine Campus Dog Park and connects to the 183rd Street trail approximately 290 feet south of 84th Avenue. The entire project is located within the Village of Tinley Park.

The total project cost is $241,000 (which includes construction and construction engineering), and the grant amount is 80% (or $192,800). The Village portion's is 20% (or $48,200).
