Byrne named Irish Parade Grand Marshal
The Village is pleased to announce that Kevin Byrne, Consulate General of Ireland Chicago, will be the Grand Marshal of the annual Tinley Park Irish Parade at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 6 along Oak Park Avenue.
Byrne was appointed Consul General in September 2020. He joined the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs in 2010 and has served in EU Division, Corporate Services and in Ireland’s Consulate in San Francisco.
Come out to the parade for dozens of floats, performances, walking groups and more, all with an Irish flair! The parade will step off at Central Middle School and march north down Oak Park Avenue to 171st Street.

If you're interested in participating in the parade, it's not too late! The cost to enter is $15 for veterans groups, schools and nonprofits; $50 for Tinley Park businesses; $100 for non-Tinley Park businesses and political groups; and $200 for unions and large corporations. Fill out the entry form on the Village website and return it to marketing@tinleypark.org by Feb. 25.
Village Board meeting highlights
The Tinley Park Village Board met Tuesday for its regular meeting at Village Hall. Highlights include:
- Village Engineer: The Village Board appointed Arlan Schattke as Village Engineer. Arlan has more than 10 years of related experience in the engineering consulting field and in municipal government. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and has been a licensed professional engineer in Illinois since 2016. Congrats, Arlan!
- Harmony Square: The Village Board approved three resolutions requesting quick-take authority powers for parcels of property at 6712 North Street, 6724 North Street and 6706 North Street. These parcels are necessary for construction of Harmony Square Plaza in Downtown Tinley. If the Illinois General Assembly grants this authority, the parcels will come under Village control within one year of the date granted.
- State Property: Village Manger Pat Carr gave an update on a State bill that would approve the sale of the former Tinley Park Mental Health Center at 183rd Street and Harlem Avenue to the Village of Tinley Park for $4.5 million. "The Village remains actively engaged with CMS and its lobbyists to get the bill pushed through," he said. "We're very optimistic that our elected officials at the State will submit this bill." Carr added that the property has the potential to create thousands of jobs and generate millions of dollars for the entire area.
- Task Force Update: Deputy Chief Thomas Tilton gave an update on the Tinley Park Police Department's new task force with Orland Park and Orland Hills to monitor the 159th Street car dealership corridor between Harlem Avenue and LaGrange Road. Since the task force was formed, there have been 70 traffic stops, one unlawful use of weapon arrest, 105 grams of cannabis seized, three misdemeanor arrests and three drivers that were chased away by police before they were able to commit a crime. "These stats are indicative of a very effective program," Tilton said
- Floor and Decor: Building Official Michael Coleman reported that Floor and Decor at the former Burlington building on 159th Street is on track to hold its grand opening on April 18.
- Water Pressure: The board approved a professional services contract with Christopher B. Burke Engineering, LTD for administration and fulltime construction observation services of the Westside Pressure Improvements Design and Construction.
- Bulk Fuel: The Board approved a contract with Al Warren Oil Company, Inc. to participate in a fixed-cost bulk fuel program for both gasoline and diesel fuel. This will give the village manager the authority to finalize a contract subsequent to the approval locking in pricing for the current market.
- Business Spotlight: The Village Board profiled Dunn-Rite Building Maintenance and D.W. Ram Corporation as part of its ongoing Tinley Park Business Spotlight series. Watch videos of each presentation at the links below.

Help keep fire hydrants clear of snow
The Tinley Park Fire Department would like to remind residents to clear hydrants of snow so that fire crews can easily access them in the event of an emergency. Fire hydrants that are blocked, concealed or difficult to access due to snow or ice can impede emergency fire response. They can be difficult to locate, and uncovering them can waste valuable time needed during a fire.
In addition to removing snow and debris covering the hydrant itself, it's important to clear the area around the hydrant by three feet on all sides for easier access. It's also important to maintain a shoveled path from the street or driveway to the fire hydrant so that it's visible from the road and firefighters can easily access it.
Students that need community service hours can locate fire hydrants on their block and clear them of snow. The Village will give each student two hours credit per hydrant for each snow event. To participate, just email lkortum@tinleypark.org with the hydrant location, date, school and a picture before and after the hydrant is cleared. In return, the Village will email a signed certificate of community service to that student and school contact.
Snow Plow Reminder
Also, please remember not to park on the street after one inch of snow has fallen to ensure that plow crews have enough room to clear the roads of snow. Residents are also asked not to shovel snow from a driveway or parking lot into the roadway or to put garbage cans or recycling bins in the street, as they can interfere with the snowplow. Learn more by watching the below video or at TinleyPark.org/Snow.
'Benches' sponsorships still available!

Your business, group or organization also will be included in the widely distributed Benches on the Avenue brochure and featured on the Village website and Facebook page.
