City of Palos Hills City Council met Jan. 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1) CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Bennett called the City Council Meeting to order at 6:58p.m.

2) PLEDGE TO THE FLAG: Mayor Bennett led everyone in the Pledge to the Flag.

3) ROLL CALL: Upon roll call the following Aldermen responded:

PRESENT: Price, Brachman, Lebarre, Donahue, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak

ABSENT: None

4) QUORUM: Mayor Bennett declared a quorum was present.

5) READING OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES:

Ald. Kleefisch MOVED to approve the City Council Meeting Minutes dated, December 16, 2021 as presented. SECONDED by Ald. Nowak. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Brachman, Donahue, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price

NAY: None

ABSTAIN: Lebarre MOTION CARRIED

6) CITIZENS PETITION: None this evening.

7) CITIZENS HEARING:

Mayor Bennett, the meeting is open to the public for any comments or questions.

There were no comments or questions from the public; the public portion of the meeting was closed.

At this time Mayor Bennett administered the Oath of Office to Patrick Kennedy to the Office of Patrol Officer.

8) REPORTS & COMMUNICATIONS FROM MAYOR AND OTHER CITY OFFICIALS:

A. CITY CLERK: No report this evening.

B. CITY ATTORNEY: In the absence of City Attorney Pappas there was no report this evening.

C. MAYOR: No report this evening.

9) PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, COMMUNICATIONS, RESOLUTIONS, AND ORDINANCES BY ALDERMEN:

A. BUILDING & LICENSING:

Building Commissioner Lesnicki provided an update on a the restoration progress of Thasso’s restaurant after the fire it endured stating it should be up and running in approximately one to two weeks, and the projected opening of Park & Field restaurant next door to City Hall is mid-March.

Ald. Abed read the December 2021 Building report and noted that 43 permits were issued for a total of $15,380.00 in permit fees.

B. CITY ADMINISTRATION:

Ald. Stratton announced for the record that there were no Executive Sessions for the past 6 months, therefore there are no Executive Sessions to review.

C. COMMUNITY RESOURCES:

Ald. Price stated that the Free Blood Pressure screening scheduled for February 9th and the AARP Driver Safety course scheduled for February 24th and 25th have been cancelled due to COVID.

D. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:

Ald. Price announced that there are two new businesses that have opened in Palos Hills, both are COVID testing sites. The first is OTS Results at 9957 S. Roberts Road which is open 7 days a week from 8:00am-7:00pm. The second location is Midwest Collections & Management at 10200 S. Roberts Road which is open 7 days a week from 8:00am-5:00pm.

E. FINANCE:

Ald. Lebarre MOVED to authorize the expenditure of a Vendor Warrant dated, January 6, 2022 in the amount of $224,861.96. SECONDED by Ald. Brachman. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted: AYE: Lebarre, Donahue, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Brachman NAY: None MOTION CARRIED

F. LEGISLATION & ORDINANCES:

Ald. Donahue had no report this evening.

G. PARKS:

Ald. Nowak reported that after a three week break Playschool will begin again on Monday, January 10th.

GOLF:

Ald. Pasek reported that the Golf Course is closed, and the bathroom remodel is underway.

H. PLANNING & ZONING:

Ald. Nowak had no report this evening.

I. PUBLIC SAFETY:

Ald. Kleefisch stated that we received two checks; the first is from Lynx Buyback in the amount of $1,026.00, and the second is from Consolidated High School District 230 in the amount of $12,103.79.

J. PUBLIC WORKS/SEWER & WATER:

Ald. Brachman had no report this evening.

10) REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES: No report this evening.

11) UNFINISHED BUSINESS: No report this evening.

12) MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS: Ald. Pasek wanted to recognize Sergeant Marlene Rittmanic of the Bradley Police Department who was fatally shot while on duty as well as Officer Tyler Bailey who was critically injured, and requested a moment of silence.

Ald. Nowak recognized Louis Pasderetz, Julie and Louie Pasderetz’s son, who was in a fatal plane crash on December 26, 2021, and requested a moment of silence.

Mayor Bennett asked for all to stand in a moment of silence.

Ald. Pasek mentioned the need of body cams for our Police department. Mayor Bennett stated that we are under a mandate by the State of Illinois to have body cameras and is currently working with the Police Chief on implementing that program and developing a budget.

13) ADJORNMENT:

No further business, Mayor Bennett entertained a motion to adjourn. SO MOVED by Ald. Price. SECONDED by Ald. Stratton. By voice vote, all voted AYE.

The Meeting adjourned at 7:15p.m.
