RUIZ MOWS DOWN HITTERS TO OPEN BASEBALL SEASON

Written by Brian Frangella, OLCHS Staff Writer

When junior Cristian Ruiz takes the mound for the Oak Lawn Community High School baseball team, opposing hitters know one thing for sure—they are going to see some heat. Then, just as they think they have it timed up well, he drops a curveball on them. To open the season, he has shown that all of his pitches are working by winning a game against Hubbard and closing out another win against Simeon.

In the win against Hubbard, Ruiz struck out eight hitters in three innings. Then, against Simeon he threw one scoreless inning to finish off the 7-2 victory. Ruiz is one of the captains of the team and has lofty aspirations for the season.

“Cristian’s goals for the season are to repeat as South Suburban Conference Red Champions and to win an Illinois High School Association Regional championship in May,” head coach Bill Gerny said.
