City of Hickory Hills City Council met May 12.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

CALL TO ORDER

The regular meeting of the Hickory Hills City Council was called to order by Mayor Mike Howley at 7:30 p.m.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Howley lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

ROLL CALL

Upon roll call, the following were present:

Treasurer Al Vodicka, Building Commissioner John Moirano and City Engineer Mike Spolar were absent. There being a quorum present the meeting was called to order.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Alderman Waight moved to open the meeting to the public. Alderman Purtill second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

Mr. Pat Shaughnessy

9210 S. 79th Avenue

Mr. Shaughnessy would like a stop sign placed at 93rd and 79th Avenue. He has noticed many cars speeding in this area. He also would like the City to repair the potholes.

He also informed the Council there is a school bus parked on a residential street and it’s been there for 8 years.

It has RV plates but is quite the eyesore. Lastly, he would like the weeds at the AT &T building on 95th Street cleared.

Mr. Gil Marek

9320 S. 79th Avenue

Mr. Marek expressed his concern with the school bus parked on a residential street. Also, he has issue with residents not bringing in their trash cans in a timely manner.

Mrs. Yolanda Shaughnessy

9210 S. 79th Avenue

Mrs. Shaughnessy stated she would like the City to have all the facts on the school bus parked on 79th Avenue. She does not feel it should be parked there. She also stated it has RV plates, but it is not an RV. Mayor Howley noted he will have the City Attorney review this matter and give the Council a legal opinion. Mayor Howley stated he understands their concerns.

CLOSE TO THE PUBLIC

Alderman Zimmerman moved to close the meeting to the public. Alderman Ferrero second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

Retirement Recognition – At this time, the Mayor recognized Mr. Alan Jurak of Public Works on his retirement. He has been with Public Works for 36 years. A proclamation was read and a small reception followed.

JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS

Alderman Waight moved to approve the minutes of the regularly scheduled meeting of April 28, 2022, as printed subject to deletions or corrections. Alderman Fonte second. Roll call: Aldermen Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Waight, Zimmerman aye. Alderman Ferrero pass. So approved.

REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS

MAYOR

Mayor Howley read a proclamation which proclaimed the month of May as Motorcycle Awareness Month.

CITY TREASURER

Treasurer Vodicka was absent. Finance Chairman Kman presented the 2022/2023 Budget for approval. Alderman Waight moved to approve the 2022/2023 Budget as reviewed at the April 28th Committee Meeting. Alderman Kman second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

COMMUNICATIONS

BILLS PAYABLE

Alderman Kman moved to approve the bills payable for the first half of May 2022 in the amount of $441,166.39. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, McHugh, Purtill, Stachnik, Waight, Zimmerman aye. So approved.

STANDING COMMITTEES

Kman/Finance

Alderman Kman distributed a three-year video gaming revenue comparison report.

Stachnik/Public Safety

Chief Hobart distributed a copy of the 2021 Annual Police Report to the Council. No comments currently.

Zimmerman/Public Works

McHugh/Bldg./Facilities

Alderman McHugh thanked Public Works for their assistance with a sidewalk issue at Parkview Apartments.

Alderman McHugh expressed his sympathies at the recent passing of Mr. Ray Letkey. He was a long-time resident of Hickory Hills and will be missed.

Purtill/Laws & Ordinances

Alderman Purtill presented one business license application for Street of Europe Fashion located at 8717C W. 95th Street. No objections were noted.

Fonte/Health & Environmental Control

Alderman Fonte reported for the month of April, Waste Management “At Your Door Service” collected 1,294 pounds of recycling with 26 stops.

Ferrero/Community Affairs/Youth Advisory

Alderman Ferrero gave an update on the Street Fair and stated all three bands have been contracted.

Alderman Ferrero reported Arbor Day was a success and the plants were gone extremely fast.

Waight/Chamber Business Development

Alderman Waight announced the Farmer’s Market will begin on Friday, June 3rd at City Hall.
