Pastor Chris Butler, a Democrat running for the First Congressional District in Illinois, attended the ribbon cutting for TK Insurance Services in Tinley Park.
Butler has attended similar events to show support to local businesses.
“Wonderful to see a new local business opening to uplift its clients in the local community," Butler said in a release. "Businesses like this one are the ones who deserve strategic support from our government, which I fully plan to advance in Congress.”
TK Insurance Services is led by independent health insurance agent Tina Konieczki. Konieczki utilizes an individual approach to selecting insurance options for her clientele, according to their Facebook page.
Butler's campaign focuses on empowering and protecting families. He said that it is “time for a new way forward on abortion,” Chicago City Wire reported.
“Americans have been unhappy for a long time with the polarizing rhetoric that has pervaded our discourse on this topic, which has served only the political elites capitalizing on it — not the everyday Americans facing real decisions about pregnancy, family and relationships,” Butler said in a press release.
Together with his five kids, Butler and his wife reside in South Holland. He serves as the lead pastor of the Chicago Embassy Church Network, according to Chicago City Wire. As part of his fellowship work, he is a leader in the Chicago Peace Campaign, which mobilizes churches against violent crime. Additionally, he runs his own small business — a PR company — and was a member of the Obama campaign team that worked on school choice issues. "Compassion & Conviction" is a book that he co-wrote.
Illinois First Congressional District's incumbent representative is Bobby Rush, who is no longer seeking re-election, according to Ballotpedia. Butler is continuing his campaign toward obtaining this seat in a crowded field of 21 candidates. The primary election will be held on Tuesday, June 28.
The First Congressional District encompasses a sizable portion of Cook County, the South Side of Chicago and southwest to Joliet.
