City of Hometown City Council met Aug. 23.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Call to Order: The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Hometown was called to order by Mayor Kevin Casey at 7:00 P.M.

Pledge of Allegiance: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Alderman Rick Banasiak.

Roll Call: Roll call indicated that the following were present: Aldermen Zak, Banasiak, Finnegan, Barnhouse, Kurysz, Walsh, Beyer, Grochowski and Reynolds.

Absent: Alderman Smith.

Also present: Elizabeth Attard, City Attorney, Bonnie Gesiakowski, Director of Public Health and Safety.

Press: Kelly White, Hometown Hi-Lites.

Journal August 9, 2022

Moved by Alderman Beyer seconded by Alderman Walsh to approve as published the Journal of August 9, 2022 regular City Council Meeting.

Roll call, the vote was:

AYES: (9) Aldermen Kurysz, Grochowski, Walsh, Banasiak, Barnhouse, Reynolds Finnegan, Zak and Beyer.

NAYS: (0)

ABSENT: (1) Alderman Smith.

MOTION DECLARED CARRIED

CITIZEN’S HEARING

Phil Mottl of 9062 Corcoran Road asked about rental trucks in town, if it is legal for them to park on the driveway. Mayor Casey stated yes, it is legal.

REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS

Office of the Mayor

Mayor Casey stated he has been trying to get ahold of the Doctor and did make contact with one person and let him know we will condemn the building if the Doctor does not reach out. The Car Wash is going as planned. Mayor Casey met with the designer for the Cannabis building, and he feels only ¼ of the building will be used so they would like to add some other venues within the building. Possibly a bar, consumption area, they have a similar operation at Winthrop Harbor. The business would be open seven days a week from 8 am to 10 pm. There is ample parking, and the Chief has vetted the security company and all checks out. With Burbank also getting a recreational dispensary there will be heavy competition in our area. This will be on the agenda for the next meeting. Mayor Casey spoke with the owner of the empty lot at the Shopping Center, he plans to re-pave the lot surrounding his property Friday morning. The new owner of the Plaza is coming to meet Mayor Casey. There is also a new owner of the 4 Cities shopping plaza, Mayor Casey sent them a few possible clients. The Home Rule recount process continues.

Office of the City Clerk:

City Clerk Mary Jo C. Hacker reported her office received a request from the Worth Township Foundation for a foursome and sponsorship for their first annual golf outing.

Moved by Alderman Walsh, seconded by Alderman Beyer to approve a Foursome and Hole Sponsor in the amount of $400.00 for the Worth Township Foundation

Roll call, the vote was:

AYES: (9) Aldermen Kurysz, Grochowski, Walsh, Banasiak, Barnhouse, Reynolds Finnegan, Zak and Beyer.

NAYS: (0)

ABSENT: (1) Alderman Smith.

MOTION DECLARED CARRIED

Office of the Treasurer:

City Treasurer Salvatore had no report. Alderman Banasiak asked Treasurer Roti if we will be okay with the late tax revenue. Treasurer Roti stated we should be fine.

REPORTS FROM CITY APPOINTED OFFICIAL

City Attorney: Elizabeth Attard had no report.

Police: Louis Dominguez, Chief of Police was not present. Mayor Casey thanked the Chief and the Department for being out in full force at the Crazy Joe Toys for Tots event at the Shopping center. Mayor Casey also stated it was nice to see the Special Olympics Race Car that Commander Haubenreiser will drive at the Fundraiser on September 24, in Grundy County. Donations are being accepted for the fundraiser. Mayor Casey stated he is in Oak Lawn twice a day driving his grandson to school, he sees no OL PD present, Hometown PD are around the school every morning and evening and we thank them and appreciate them.

Public Works: Mark Trlak, Director was not present.

Public Health & Safety: Director Bonnie Gesiakowski had no report.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Accounts Payable and Payroll August 23, 2022

Moved by Alderman Beyer, seconded by Alderman Finnegan to approve for payment the accounts payable vouchers in the amount of $30,515.90 and payroll vouchers in the amount of $61,866.01 for a total expenditure of $92,381.91.

Roll call, the vote was:

AYES: (9) Aldermen Banasiak, Zak, Grochowski, Walsh, Barnhouse, Kurysz, Finnegan, Beyer and Reynolds.

NAYS: (0)

ABSENT: (1) Alderman Smith.

MOTION DECLARED CARRIED

STREETS, SIDEWALKS AND MUNICIPAL BUILDING COMMITTEE

Alderman Glen Zak, Chairman had no report.

WATER AND SEWER COMMITTEE

Alderman Daniel Walsh, Chairman moved, seconded by Alderman Finnegan to award the Water Meter replacement project to the sole bidder Calumet Plumbing as recommended by Hancock Engineering. Roll call, the vote was:

AYES: (8) Aldermen Kurysz, Grochowski, Walsh, Banasiak, Barnhouse, Reynolds Finnegan, Zak and Beyer.

NAYS: (0)

ABSENT: (1) Alderman Smith.

MOTION DECLARED CARRIED

PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE

Alderman Robert Smith, Chairman was absent. Mayor Casey stated the Fall Fest is October 15.

BUILDING COMMITTEE

Alderman Brian Barnhouse, Chairman had no report.

LICENSE COMMITTEE:

Alderman Donna Grochowski, Chairman had no report.

CODE AND ORDINANCE COMMITTEE

Alderman Robert Reynolds, Chairman had no report.

INSURANCE COMMITTEE:

Alderman Rick Banasiak, Chairman had no report.

PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE

Alderman Luci Kurysz, Chairman had no report.

POLICE COMMITTEE

Alderman Frank Finnegan, Chairman, had no report.

REPORTS FROM SPECIAL COMMITTEES

Library: Alderman Grochowski, Liaison reported the next Library Board meeting will be held Tuesday September 6, 2022.

Legislation: Alderman Christopher Beyer had no report.

Fire Department: Mayor Casey, Liaison, report they are improving and thank them for being at the event Saturday.

Personnel Review: Mayor Kevin Casey, Chairman had no report.

PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, COMMUNICATIONS, RESOLUTIONS,

ORDERS AND ORDINANCES BY ALDERMEN

SPECIAL EVENTS: Alderman Grochowski stated she had not heard from the Army yet regarding the 9-11 Memorial Event. All First responders will be in attendance, the event will be held at Mayor’s Park at 1 pm on Sunday September 11, 2022.

HEALTH, WELFARE & COMMUNITY EVENTS: Alderman Grochowski reported there will be Flu Shots at Patterson Park on September 17.

CITIZEN’S HEARING: NONE

ADJOURNMENT: Motion made by Alderman Reynolds Seconded by Alderman Zak to adjourn the regular meeting of the Hometown City Council.
