City of Palos Hills City Council met Aug. 4

City of Palos Hills City Council met Aug. 4.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1) CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Bennett called the City Council Meeting to order at 7:00p.m.

2) PLEDGE TO THE FLAG: Mayor Bennett led everyone in the Pledge to the Flag.

3) ROLL CALL: Upon roll call the following Aldermen responded:

PRESENT: Price, Lebarre, Donahue, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak

ABSENT: Brachman

4) QUORUM: Mayor Bennett declared a quorum was present.

5) READING OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES:

Ald. Kleefisch MOVED to approve the City Council Meeting Minutes dated, July 21, 2022 as presented. SECONDED by Ald. Donhue. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Donahue, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Price

NAY: None

ABSTAIN: Lebarre, Nowak

ABSENT: Brachman MOTION CARRIED

6) CITIZENS PETITION: None this evening.

7) CITIZENS HEARING:

Mayor Bennett, the meeting is open to the public for any comments or questions.

There were no comments or questions from the public; the public portion of the meeting was closed.

8) REPORTS & COMMUNICATIONS FROM MAYOR AND OTHER CITY OFFICIALS:

A. CITY CLERK: No report this evening.

B. CITY ATTORNEY: No report this evening.

C. MAYOR: Mayor Bennett entertained a motion for the recommendation, from the Public Works Commissioner, for the full-time appointment of Robert Derwin as Master Mechanic. SO MOVED by Ald. Stratton. SECONDED by Ald. Price. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Lebarre, Donahue, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Abed, Nowak, Price

NAY: None

ABSTAIN: Pasek

ABSENT: Brachman MOTION CARRIED

9) PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, COMMUNICATIONS, RESOLUTIONS, AND ORDINANCES BY ALDERMEN:

A. BUILDING & LICENSING:

Ald. Abed presented and read the Building Department report for the month of July 2022 as follows: Total permits 82, total permit fees $60,622.50, total security deposits received $5,500.00, total security deposits refunded $250.00, and total water and sewer permit fees $2,700.00.

B. CITY ADMINISTRATION:

Ald. Stratton had no report this evening.

C. COMMUNITY RESOURCES:

Ald. Price had no report this evening.

D. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:

Ald. O’Connell announced the licensing of two new businesses: Charleys Philly Steaks at 10458 S. Harlem Avenue are open Sunday-Thursday from 10:00am-10:00pm, and from 10:00am 2:00am on Friday and Saturday. Sumaya Maintenance is a new COVID testing site located at 10200 S. Roberts Road, they are open from 9:00am-5:00pm 7 days a week.

E. FINANCE:

Ald. Lebarre MOVED to authorize the expenditure of a Vendor Warrant dated, August 4, 2022 in the amount of $394,220.28. SECONDED by Ald. Price. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Donahue, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Lebarre

NAY: None

ABSENT: Brachman

MOTION CARRIED

Ald. Lebarre complemented our Police Department and Community Service Officer for their assistance and patience helping a disabled Veteran and resident of the 3rd Ward who had locked her keys in her vehicle.

F. LEGISLATION & ORDINANCES:

Ald. Donahue had no report this evening.

G. PARKS:

Ald. Nowak had no report this evening.

GOLF:

Ald. Pasek read the Golf report and noted that the course is in great shape. The cart path has been completed on holes 4 and 6, and upkeep of irrigation leak repairs and grass cutting continues.

H. PLANNING & ZONING:

Ald. Nowak had no report this evening.

I. PUBLIC SAFETY:

Ald. Kleefisch presented and read the Palos Hills Police Department Activity Report for the month of July 2022 as follows: 128 traffic tickets were issued, 77 parking tickets, 8 misdemeanor complaints and 1 felony complaint, there were no criminal homicides, there were no robberies, there were no aggravated assaults and battery; there were no burglaries, there were 4 thefts, there was no motor vehicle thefts, and our CID Division handled a total of 34 cases.

Mayor Bennett thanked our Police Department for their wonderful community relations with our residents.

J. PUBLIC WORKS/SEWER & WATER:

In the absence of Ald. Brachman there was no report this evening.

Ald. Kleefisch complemented the Public Works department for the hanging flower baskets throughout the City as well as the landscaping under the City signs.

Mayor Bennett added that they do a great job throughout all the parks and facilities as well.

10) REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES: None this evening.

11) UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None this evening.

12) MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS: Ald. Pasek inquired about the Federal money received during the COVID pandemic. Mayor Bennett stated that the money received has been put into reserve until needed for Capital Improvement projects or redirection on allowable spending and or restrictions from the Feds.

13) ADJORNMENT:

No further business, Mayor Bennett entertained a motion to adjourn. SO MOVED by Ald. Stratton. SECONDED by Ald. Donahue. By voice vote, all voted AYE.

The Meeting adjourned at 7:13p.m.
