Adam Sobieray is one of the newest Tinley Park firefighters to be sworn in, taking the oath at the Nov. 15 village board meeting, but he is far from a rookie and has brought much to the department.
“So Adam made his one year of probation, but by no means is he a new firefighter. He’s been doing this job for a while at the University Park,” Fire Chief Stephen Klotz said at the meeting. “So he brings us all his knowledge and has done a fantastic job. Thank you very much.”
Sobieray’s spouse and children were on hand for the event. Other firefighters who took the pledge were John Brennan and Matthew Sutkus. The firefighter swearing-in was just one item on a packed agenda at the meeting.
Other village business included recognizing the Information Technology (IT) department. The IT unit received a Certificate of Recognition as it ranked in the top 10 when it comes to the Center for Digital Government’s 2022 Top Ten Digital Cities Survey for municipalities of Tinley Park’s size.
Anthony Ardolino heads up the department. In accepting the award, he said the village has modernized its IT practices and has blocked cyber attacks, two achievements that went far in helping the village earn the national notice. The Village Board also announced that Brandi Azbill has been named to the position of assistant finance director. Azbill has worked for various municipalities for more than 15 years in various positions, most recently as the assistant finance director for another municipality. She has plenty of experience handling large budgets and will be a welcome addition to the village, a board member said.
