City of Palos Heights License, Permits, & Franchises Committee met Nov. 8.

CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Lewandowski called the License, Permits, and Franchises Committee meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. In attendance were Alderman McGovern, Alderman McGrogan, Building Commissioner Frank Giordano, and recording secretary Ashley Pala. Absent was Alderman Basso.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Alderman Lewandowski moved to approve the minutes of the October 11, 2022, meeting, seconded by Alderman McGrogan. On a voice note, the motion passed unanimously.
PERMIT & CODE ENFORCEMENT REPORT
Chairman Lewandowski referred to the permit report in the agenda packet. There were 70 permits issued from October 5, 2022, to November 1, 2022, totaling $30,588.00. For the permit period from January 1, 2022, to October 4, 2022 the City has collected $240,445.68 with 788 permits issued. From January 1, 2022, to October 4, 2022, the City has collected $1,450.00 in re-inspection fees. There were 4 code enforcement cases and 4 code enforcement inspections from October 5, 2022, to November 1, 2022. From January 1, 2022, to October 4, 2022 there have been 113 code enforcement cases and 118 inspections.
BUSINESS LICENSE REPORT
For the 2022 business licenses, $89,302.50 was invoiced, of which $86,520.25 has been paid. The amount owed is $2,782.25.
VEHICLE STICKER REPORT
For the period from May 18, 2022, to October 31, 2022, approximately 6,745 stickers were sold and $155,420.00 was collected.
Alderman McGrogan commented on how the total amount is significantly lower than previous years. Chairman Lewandowski questioned on how to urge residents to obtain a vehicle sticker report. Recording Secretary Pala mentioned that she spoke with the Women’s Club in possibly having students design art work and be voted on to be used on the vehicle stickers.
Variance for Permanent Sign at 6600 W College Dr
Owner Hani Khatib is requesting a variance for a permanent LED sign at his business property located at 6600 W College Dr. The City of Palos Heights code states that the sign cannot be taller than 10 feet. Mr.
Khatib is requesting for 12 feet due to the steep angle at the location of the sign. The building is currently at 30% capacity and is in hopes to promote office space on the new sign. Mr. Khatib stating with the college being so close, he would like to promote games days or other events within the City.
Alderman McGrogan moved to approve the variance for a permanent sign located at 6600 W College Dr. Seconded by Alderman McGovern. Upon a call of the roll, motion passed on the following vote:
Yeas: 3-Lewandowski, McGrogan, McGovern
Nays: 0
Absent: 1-Basso
