- GSU started out fast and led Trinity Christian 13-0 and 35-13 at halftime in an impressive CCAC road win Wednesday night.
Ce'niyah Hampton led three Jaguars in double figures scoring 14 points and registered 4 steals playing 27 minutes coming off the bench.
Kendall Winston hit three early three-pointers to key the first half blitz of the Trolls (9-16, 6-12) and she scored 11 points for the winners.
Angelique Cowan scored 11 points and had 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals filling up the stat sheet for GSU.
Lotte Miller played a solid all-around game with 10 rebounds, 9 assists, 5 steals and scored 3 points in 32 minutes played.
GSU (7-18, 5-12 CCAC) had seven healthy players (missing Tabetha Jones, Jennifer Tomasic, and Tahlor Sutton to injuries). Everyone contributed in the solid team win inside players Trinity Sims (7 rebounds, 3 blocked shots, 4 points) , Aaliyah Hull (8 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocked shots) and Gaetana Davis (8 points, 2 rebounds in 19 minutes played).limiting the Trolls frontline in the ten-point victory.
GSU Head Coach Tonishea Mack was pleased with her team in the wire to wire win. "We had the energy, the focus, the mentality to stay disciplined. This is the team we thought we were going to have all year. This team will make some noise. And I love coaching them when they are playing hard, playing disciplined. It's fun coaching this group when they are playing at the level they are supposed to be."
Second leading scorer Jones missed another game Wednesday and also Tomasic and Sutton were out injured and playing with seven available players Coach Tmack is familar with at GSU. "The thing is, Tony (Bates) and I joke all the time, I've been down to seven players all five years at this point of the season and this is when we play our best basketball. It doesn't bother the girls and doesn't bother me, and we are going to roll with whoever is out there."
"We recruit well enough that we showed tonight, everybody can play. Everybody scored and we shared the ball well in our our offense and we played hard on defense. This is the team we recruited them to be," said Coach Mack.
GSU plays next at Judson University, Saturday, February 11, 1 p.m. CST start.
