City of Palos Heights Public Arts Commission met April 10.
Here are the minutes provided by the commission:
I. Meeting of the Public Arts Commission call to order held on April 10, 2023
7:10p.m. Present were Maria DeCaprio-Sunta , Vanessa Sunta, Lynda Schiappa, Kathy Peters, Sue De Koker and Tara Oosterbaan
II. Approval of Minutes
a. Motion to approve February minutes as written by Sue De Koker was presented by Maria De Caprio-Sunta and 2nd by Tara Oosterbaan Minutes were approved.
III. Old Business –
a. Lights in the Heights Publicity
• Approval to purchase another light sculpture “Gold Tree” was denied as per Adam. Lynda will discuss the denial with the Mayor and Adam as it was the committee’s understanding that this was approved.
• Tara Oosterbaan reached out to Colleen Shum of the Lions Club to provide Pop Corn and Hot Chocolate for the 1 day lighting event on Friday 11-24.
• Kathy Peters to reach out to Cory to be our Santa at the 1 day lighting event on Friday 11- 24.
• DeCaprio-Sunta will follow up to her conversation with a letter to the Fire Chief to provide a fire truck for the Friday 11-24 lighting event.
• Tara Oosterbaan reached out to a photographer to be at the Friday 11-24 event. She will follow up.
• Sue De Koker will talk to Quality Photos in late summer to see if they would like to provide a coupn for the Friday 11-24 event.
b. Volunteer Recognition Wall
• Tuesday 4-18 @ 7:00pm at City Hall. Moving forward April will become Volunteer Recognition month in the City of Palos heights.
c. Banner Revisions
• Vanessa Sunta completed the banner revisions per Adams recommendations.
d. Storybook Garden install
• Maria DeCaprio-Sunta and Jack Sunta refurbished (4) story posts and panels. Pages were reprinted and wood and Lucite were replaced.
• Pathway signage using Frogs and Turtles will be painted and decorated with directional information to the Story Garden by Tara Oosterbaan.
• Sue DeKoker will arrange a meeting with Gareth and Jeff to discuss locations of the pathway signs. Lynda Schiappa will also attend this meeting.
e. Approval of Bills
• $1,500.00 to Vanessa Sunta design hours/artwork for revisions of Palos Heights Banners. Motion made by Lynda Schiappa to approve payment 2nd by Sue Koker. Motion carried and payment approved.
• $21.99 to Maria DeCaprio-Sunta for Lucite and $17.06 to Maria DeCaprio-Sunta for tape to refurbish the (4) story boards for the Storybook Garden. Kathy Peters motioned to approve and Lynda Schiappa 2nd. The motion was carried and this payment was approved.
V. New Business
a. 2023 Ideas
• Sculpture Tours to be planned for September 30th. More discussion and planning to follow at next meetings.
• PAC plans to have a table at The Farmers Market September 13th. More discussion and planning at next meeting
