Tinley Park Plan Commission delays vote on controversial Lenny's Gas N Wash proposal

At the request of Tinley Park Village staff, the Tinley Park Plan Commission on Thursday delayed a vote on a controversial proposal to grant a special use permit and zoning change requested by Mayor Michael Glotz’s top political donor.

Last week, South Cook News was first to report that a series of "Lenny's Gas N Wash" corporations donated $31,270 to the mayor' and his One Tinley Park political action committee.

Most recently, over two weeks in February, "Gas N Wash" owner Leonard McEnrey donated $20,000 to campaign funds controlled by Mayor Glotz.

During that time, eight different "Lenny's Gas N Wash" companies donated $2,500 each — a total of $20,000 — to Friends of Glotz and the One Tinley Park political action committee, which lists Glotz as the campaign fund's treasurer.

Neither Glotz nor McEnrey responded to requests for comment.

On Thursday, the Plan Commission was set to approve a request from McEnery, the owner of Lenny's Gas N Wash, to build a third Lenny’s Gas Wash truck stop complete with a convenience store, restaurants and two dive-thru windows on the southeast corner of LaGrange and 183rd Street.

At the meeting, the Plan Commission chairman moved to postpone the public hearing on the truck stop request until the July 6 meeting. He did not offer any explanation for the delay.

Like McEnrey’s two other truck stops in Tinley Park, the new proposal also includes plans for a video gaming license which were not mentioned in the voting packet presented to the plan commission.

The Tinley Park Committee of the Whole is set to discuss granting liquor and gaming licenses to McEnery's proposed truck stop, according to the meeting agenda
