Blue Island Public Library Board of Trustees met April 19
Here are the minutes provided by the board of trustees:
I. Call to order at 7:15pm by President Orozco

III. Public Comment – none
IV. Presentations from Guests.
Board received a status update from Jamie Hasty about children’s services and from Dan Eallonardo for MakerSpace
- Trustee Orozco suggested continuing to build partnerships with community center. - Trustee Peters asked to promote Book Box program more; Ms. Hasty to promote on social media .
- Trustee Brown asked for update on teen/young adult programming. There are planned block parties with the Park District and Switch parties at the library, movie nights to be held on Monday and Wednesday.
- Open MakerSpace hours will continue throughout the summer.
V. Reading of March 2023 minutes
a. Motion by Trustee Rauch to second, seconded by Trustee Peters

VI. Financial Report
- City will provide library with $191,000; this is $110,000 over budget.
a. Motion by Trustee Peters to approve the balance sheet and a payment a payment of $255,427.08; Trustee Rauch seconded.

VII. Director’s Report
- Director Wassenaar would like to restripe and reseal the parking lot.
- Trustee Kinney requested that dead wood on trees bordering parking lot on Ozac Hall property be trimmed back, and a mulberry removed from between the masonry near rear of parking lot. Director Wassenaar agreed to look into these issues.
- Director Wassenaar is looking into HVAC system options.
- Director Wassenaar reported that the library’s TIF is expiring and it will affect the Equalized Assessed Balance of the property; this could affect the library budget. - Trustee Orozco attended the appropriations meeting, no questions from City Council. - Director Wassenaar attended statewide Director’s University in Springfield, reported on conference and her recent visit to Guildhouse.
VIII. Unfinished business
- The Library developed a 15-minute allowance for computer use in emergency situations pursuant to requests from library patrons.

i. Motion to move PPRT funds over budgeted amount $100,000 to reserve funds: trustee Orozco seconded

X. Legislative Update
a. License to Read Act; no information available, but this would allow state librarian to negotiate a statewide library database plan.
XI. General Communication
a. Reminder for Trustees to complete Statements of Economic Interest.
b. April 29 Children’s Day, FOL Planting Day Pollinator Garden May 6, Maifest May 13
c. ATLAS Trustee Day May 20 in Alsip, Lanconi Trustee Banquet May 19 in Oak Park.
d. Trustee terms renew/expire in June, Board elections scheduled for July.
e. Portrait of a Soldier exhibit will be on display May 14-May 31, Governor Quinn to attend opening reception at 6pm on 5/24 honoring David Schultz.
f. Board Treasurer should be added to accounts.
