City of Hickory Hills City Council met May 25.

Here are the minutes provided by the council: 

CALL TO ORDER

The regular meeting of the Hickory Hills City Council was called to order by Mayor Howley on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 7:34 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Howley led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Alderman Zimmerman was absent. There being a quorum present, the meeting was called to order.

Police Promotions

At this time the following promotions were made.

Officer Dave Eenigenburg was given the oath of Sergeant by Police Commissioner Mark Cavalieri. Sylvia Kozielski was given the oath of Probationary Patrol Officer by Commissioner Cavalieri. Emmanuel Brambila was given the oath of Probationary Patrol Officer by Commissioner Cavalieri. Father Mol gave a blessing for the new positions.

Police Chief Jason Bray presented Father Mol with a 20-year Police Service Pin. A small reception followed.

Alderman McHugh moved to open the meeting to the public. Alderman Fonte second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, Makropoulos, McHugh, Purtill, Waight aye. So approved.

CLOSE TO THE PUBLIC

Alderman Waight moved to close the meeting to the public. Alderman Fonte second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, Makropoulos, McHugh, Purtill, Waight aye. So approved.

JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS

Alderman Purtill moved to approve the minutes of the regularly scheduled meeting of May 11, 2023, as printed subject to deletions or corrections. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Kman, Makropoulos, McHugh, Purtill, Waight aye. Alderman Fonte pass. So approved.

REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS

MAYOR

Mayor Howley presented a National Safe Boating Week Proclamation. The Proclamation proclaims May 20th – May 26th, 2023 as National Safe Boating Week in the City of Hickory Hills.

Mayor Howley stated as in the past, we will cancel the Committee Meetings for June through September. Alderman Ferrero moved to cancel Committee Meetings for the months of June, July, August, and September. Alderman Waight second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, Makropoulos, McHugh, Purtill, Waight aye. So approved.

CITY CLERK

Clerk Stachnik reported that Council members have received a sample City-wide pamphlet from The Recycling Partnership promoting proper recycling of refuse. The pamphlet will be mailed next week at no cost to the City.

CITY TREASURER

Treasurer Al Vodicka noted that the budget will be on the City Council Agenda for approval on June 22, 2023.

CITY ATTORNEY

Attorney Cainkar presented Ordinance #23-06, an ordinance amending Section 34.07 by increasing Class I Liquor Licenses by one. Alderman Purtill moved to approve Ordinance #23-06. Alderman Ferrero second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, Makropoulos, McHugh, Purtill, Waight aye. So approved.

CITY ENGINEER

Mr. Spolar reported that the 89th Street & Maple Lane Water Main Replacement Project will be completed within two months and that the CDBG and MFT resurfacing projects will be substantially completed within two weeks.

COMMUNICATIONS

BILLS PAYABLE

Alderman Kman moved to approve the bills payable for the second half of May 2023 in the amount of $164,497.36. Alderman Ferrero second. Roll call: Aldermen Ferrero, Fonte, Kman, Makropoulos, McHugh, Purtill, Waight aye. So approved.

Zimmerman/Public Works

Public Works Director Sue Lehr stated the Open House on May 24th provided feedback for the City’s Comprehensive Plan. She noted that residents can still provide feedback on the City’s website. Director Lehr noted that traffic patterns will shift in mid-June at 87th Street and Roberts Road and that sound walls will be installed on the Tollway starting in June.

Purtill/Laws & Ordinances

Alderman Purtill presented two business license applications. 1) Al’s Gym Pro-Athletic Shop, LLC located at 7732 W. 96th Pl. 2) Studio 100 LLC located at 8824 S. Roberts Rd, Suite A. This is an art supplies business that will include some art instruction for children. No objections were noted.

Fonte/Health & Environmental Control

Refuse toters have been delivered to the Public Works yard. This past Monday the company started delivering them to residents.

Ferrero/Community Affairs/Youth Advisory

Alderman Ferrero reported there are currently 28 vendors, 8 food vendors, and 8 entries for the car show that are registered for the Street Fair.

Waight/Chamber Business Development

No report.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Mayor Howley congratulated all City residents and their families during this graduation season.

NEW BUSINESS

The Street Fair will be held on June 25, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM and there is a free concert the evening of June 24, 2023 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
