City of Country Club Hills City Council met June 12.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. CALL TO ORDER - JAMES W. FORD, MAYOR 

A Regular Meeting of the City Council, City of Country Club Hills, Cook County, State of Illinois, was held in the City Hall 4200 W. 183rd Street at 7:05pm. The meeting was called to order by the Honorable James W. Ford, Mayor 

1a. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 

The pledge of allegiance was lead by the Honorable James W. Ford, Mayor. 

2. ROLL CALL - PATRICIA D. HUTSON, CITY CLERK 

Those on Roll Call answering present were: 

Alderman Lockett, Alderman Davis, Alderman Spivey, Alderman Edwards and Mayor Ford. 

Also in attendance were City Administrator Carl Estelle, Attorney Felicia Frazier and the Administrative Team. 

Excused and Absent - Alderman Anthony Davis 

Unexcused and Absent - Alderwoman Lisa Evans 

3. INVOCATION – CLERGY OR DESIGNEE 

Invocation was presented by Pastor Anthony Tiller of Jeremiah Church International Church of Country Club Hills. 

4. JOURNAL PROCEEDINGS 

Approval of Meeting Minutes:

A. Approval City Council Regular Meeting Minutes 05.22.2023 

Alderman Lockett moved for City Council approval of Regular Meeting Minutes for 04.24.2023 and Administrative Meeting 05.22.2023. Second, Alderman Davis.

5. COMMUNICATIONS AND REPORTS BY MAYOR FORD: 

A. Fire Department Swearing In Advancement Ceremony for Lt. E. Sawatski 

6. Mayor Ford introduced Michael Holmes-Chairman and L. Cliff Taylor-Co- Chairman of the Fire and Police Commission to swear in the advancement of Lt. E. Sawatski. Lt. Sawatski was sworn in and Chief Hullinger shared her congratulations for his dedicated work and professionalism. 

Mayor Ford reminded everyone of the Fireworks Ordinance that was passed last year and shared a copy of the signage that will be posted throughout the city and on the website. 

CITY CLERK'S REPORT - PATRICIA D. HUTSON, CITY CLERK 

Clerk Hutson shared she attended the Memorial Day program with Sgt, Major Howard Robinson as the speaker. Clerk Hutson wished everyone Happy Pride month. She also shared she attended SD#160 PK crossover. Clerk Hutson then shared she attended a clerks meeting where cyber security was the topic and will share information with the Mayor and council. Clerk Hutson shared the city will hold a surplus vehicle auction June 24th at the Police Station and packets will be available online, at the police station and City Hall. Lastly, Clerk Hutson shared the city Fireworks display will be held Tuesday July 4th at 6pm at the theater campus. 

7. COMMITTEE REPORTS: 

Finance, Insurance, & Risk Management - Alderman Lockett, Chairman (Committee Meeting – TBA) 

A. Approval - Accounts Payables Vouchers as of 06.12.2023 

Alderman Lockett moved for City Council approval for the Accounts Payables as of 05.22.2023 in the amount of $908,389.98. Second, Alderman Edwards.

Economic Development & Planning, Zoning & Development - Alderman Spivey, Chairman (Committee Meeting - TBA) 

Alderman Spivey shared the Shred Day Event will be held Saturday June 24th sat the theater campus from 9am to 12noon. He also shared that Sweets Addicts Bakery on 183rd St. has closed. 

Education, Parks & Recs - Alderman Edwards, Chairman 

(Committee Meeting - TBA) 

Alderman Edwards thanked Alderpersons Evans, Davis and Treasurer Burris for their donations along with several businesses towards the 8th and 12th grade graduates from SD#144 and SD#228. He shared he was awarded the distinguished service award and roses that he shared with city hall staff.

Alderman Lockett moved for City Council approval to open the floor to the public. Second by Alderman Edwards, Discussions - None

9. PUBLIC PORTION OF MEETING 

Jennifer Braun-Denton, Environmental Commission Chair, shared information on the upcoming training of Beautification Award Judges training June 14th - July 14th. She also shared her appreciation for the Memorial Day program. 

Michelle Brydie, Victory Center resident, shared her frustration with the lack of street maintenance, response by Mayor Ford and maintenance at the Victory Center. 

Albert Boyd, Victory Center resident, shared his frustration with the lack of street maintenance, inability of street access of Pulaski and the shopping area. 

Charles Griffith, resident, lives near 172nd and Pulaski shared his frustration with no response from his alderperson, ongoing drivers who turn around in his driveway and the need for a deadend and no through street sign. 

Martin Ponder, resident, shared his concern on how the lack of response from Jerry Townsend regarding speed bumps.

Alderman Lockett moved for City Council approval to close the floor to the public. Second by Alderman Edwards, Discussions - None

11. ALDERMANIC REPORTS 

Alderman Edwards directed his availability and response to residents to Mr. Griffith and the audience. He then shared he has tried to get the Victory Center potholes repaired and is always working on street repairs and grass cutting in Ward 1. 

Alderman Spivey thanked everyone for attending the meeting and shared he, Mayor Ford and the council are working on a date for a STEM program which will be announced at a later date. 

Alderman Lockett thanked everyone for attending and shared with the Victory Center residents that the land does not belong to the city however, the city has assisted for over 12 years. He shared the land belongs to the Gatlings. Lastly, he wished everyone a Happy Father's Day. 

Mayor Ford shared he will dispatch a crew to repair some of the potholes and recently the property was sold. He shared he is working with the new owners and had them cut the grass recently. Mayor shared he understands the inconvenience of the south bound turn on Pulaski.
