City of Palos Hills City Council met Sept. 21.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1) CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Bennett called the City Council Meeting to order at 7:00p.m. 

2) PLEDGE TO THE FLAG: Mayor Bennett led everyone in the Pledge to the Flag.

3) ROLL CALL: Upon roll call the following Aldermen responded:

PRESENT: Price, Brachman, Lebarre, Donahue, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak 

ABSENT: O’Connell

4) QUORUM: Mayor Bennett declared a quorum was present.

5) READING OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES: 

Ald. Kleefisch MOVED to approve the City Council Meeting Minutes dated, September 7, 2023 as presented. SECONDED by Ald. Donahue. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted: 

AYE: Brachman, Lebarre, Donahue, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Price

NAY: None

ABSTAIN: Nowak

ABSENT: O’Connell MOTION CARRIED 

6) CITIZENS PETITION: None this evening.

7) CITIZENS HEARING: 

Mayor Bennett, the meeting is open to the public for any comments or questions.

There were no comments or questions from the public; the public portion of the meeting was closed.

8) REPORTS & COMMUNICATIONS FROM MAYOR AND OTHER CITY OFFICIALS: A. CITY CLERK: No report this evening.

B. CITY ATTORNEY: No report this evening.

C. MAYOR: No report this evening.

9) PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, COMMUNICATIONS, RESOLUTIONS, AND ORDINANCES BY ALDERMEN: 

A. BUILDING & LICENSING: 

Ald. Abed had no report this evening.

B. CITY ADMINISTRATION: 

Ald. Stratton had no report this evening.

C. COMMUNITY RESOURCES: 

Ald. Price reminded all that the Beautification Awards will be at 11:00am on October 7th at Town Square Park.

D. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: 

In the absence of Ald. O’Connell there was no report this evening.

E. FINANCE: 

Ald. Lebarre MOVED to authorize the expenditure of a Vendor Warrant dated, September 21, 2023 in the amount of $1,156,542.28. SECONDED by Ald. Pasek. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Lebarre, Donahue, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Brachman 

NAY: None

ABSENT: O’Connell MOTION CARRIED Ald. Lebarre rescheduled the Budget Review meeting for November 2nd at 5:30pm.

F. LEGISLATION & ORDINANCES: 

Ald. Donahue had no report this evening.

G. PARKS: 

Ald. Nowak announced that there will be a concert in the park on Thursday, September 28th from 6-8pm.

Ald. Nowak reported that the City wide garage sales will be held September 29th, 30th and October 1st. In addition, the Community Center will have its Trash to Treasures sale on Saturday, September 30th from 9am-1pm. Tickets for the Haunted Hills of Palos event that will be held October 20th and October 21st are now being sold at the Community Center.

GOLF:

Ald. Pasek reported that the course is very wet from all of the rain we’ve been getting. The turf is being cut on a regular basis. Some new equipment that has been purchased includes a 2015 John Deere greens mower, and a used Cushman utility vehicle. Cart path resurfacing will take place on holes 2, 3, and 8.

H. PLANNING & ZONING: 

Ald. Nowak MOVED to set a Plan Commission meeting for Monday, October 23rd at 7:00pm for the consideration of a Special Use for a fitness center/gym at the property located at 8082-86 W. 111th Street. SECONDED by Ald. Pasek. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Donahue, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Brachman, Lebarre NAY: None

ABSENT: O’Connell MOTION CARRIED

I. PUBLIC SAFETY: 

Ald. Kleefisch presented and read the Palos Hills Police Department Activity Report for the month of August 2023 as follows: 198 traffic tickets were issued, 98 parking tickets, 15 misdemeanor complaints and 6 felony complaints, there were no criminal homicides, there were no robberies, there was 1 aggravated assault and battery; there were 7 burglaries, there were 3 thefts, there were 2 motor vehicle thefts, and our CID Division handled a total of 39 cases.

J. PUBLIC WORKS/SEWER & WATER: 

Ald. Brachman had no report this evening.

10) REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES: None this evening.

11) UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None this evening.

12) MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS: Mayor Bennett announced that the Easement Agreement with Oak Lawn will be on the agenda for the next City Council meeting.

Ald. Pasek mentioned the resident who spoke at the last meeting regarding the tower at the police station and said that if a fence was put up, it would leave another 50 feet of tower exposed. Mayor Bennett said that the current fence is owned by the tower company; therefore the City would need permission from the tower company to place something like the stone fence at Public Works.

13) ADJORNMENT: 

No further business, Mayor Bennett entertained a motion to adjourn. SO MOVED by Ald. Stratton. SECONDED by Ald. Pasek. By voice vote, all voted AYE.

The Meeting adjourned at 7:10p.m.
