Village of East Hazel Crest President and Board of Trustees met Oct. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Officials: Mayor Thomas A, Brown, Administrator Lazuka and Clerk Minnis 

Roll Call: Trustees Forte, Kearns, Johnson Ewan, Wideman & Ortiz present; 

Also present: PD Chief Janich, FD Chief Vallow &.G. Mills, PW Brian King, J. White, S. Sokolowski, Kim & Kris Szlembarski, Joann Murry, Joan Hale, Brooke Vida and numerous firemen and dozens of family & friends of B. Vida.

Invocation & Pledge.

Open to Visitors: Tr. Johnson & Wideman made the motions to OPEN this segment of the meeting to the public. All trustees voted aye. Mtn. carried. Time: 7:03 pm

M. Fernandez questioned the handwritten amt. of Bills to be paid, He thanked Homewood Scavenger for trimming trees.

Close to Visitors: There being no other input from those present, Trustees Wideman and Ewan made the motions to CLOSE this segment of the meeting to the public. All trustees were in favor. Mtn. carried. Time: 7:05 pm

Reports of Village Officials: 

Mayor: Mayor Brown spoke of the presentation of State Senator Aldo DeAngeles Leadership Award at the So. Sub. Convention & Visitors Bureau on Oct, 4th at the Alsip Hotel made to the Mayors of East Hazel Crest and Homewood for their contribution in securing the hotel and casino at 174th & Halsted. It's been 20 years 'in the making'. Mayor Brown held the 'award' up for all to see.

1) Brooke Vida award presentation: Fire Chief Wm. Vallow spoke of the 7/19 incident in which Volunteer Fireman Brooke Vida witnessed an accident and aided the injured family. Congratulations Fireman Vida! [family & friends of Fireman Vida left the council room. Time 718 pm

Mayor Brown reported on the ZBA Public Hearing meeting held on October 4th, 2023 on amending Sec.22-151 of the Village CODE regarding auto sales, auto parts sales and repairs.

2) ORDINANCE 23-13; amending Sec.22-151: Bl Retail & Wholesale District Business District.. Trustees Johnson and Kearns made the motions to adopt Ordinance 23-13,. Roll Call: all trustees voted aye. Mtn. carried.

3) Approval of the IGA for the INVEST IN COOK PROGRAM. (providing for a sidewalk design engineering for pathway to Center to I 72nd Street to Ashland. Trustees Wideman and Ortiz made the motions to authorize the Mayor & Clerk to execute same. Roll Call: all trustees voted aye,  Mtn. carried. 

Trustees Kearns and Ewan made the motions to approve the $150,000 funding from Rep. Davis to use on Lathrop ditch project, All trustees were in favor. Mtn. carried.

Clerk: Clerk Minnis said the Trick N Treat hours will be after school to sundown. The Annual Firemen's Halloween Party for the children will be held on Sunday, October 29th.

ADMINISTRATOR: 

Approval to extend copier Agreements for Admin. and PD was discussed. Trustees Johnson and Ewan made the motions to approve the Agreement. Roll Call: All trustees voted aye. Mtn. carried.

1) Center St. pathway re-surfacing - plan drawings in progress.

2) Center Street water main & vault- substantially complete - needs to make connection to existing water main.

2) Lathrop Water main complete - testing in progress.

3) Lathrop ditch - plans/specs nearing 95% complete - plans submitted to Tollway, MWRD and USACE.

4) Invest in Cook- Center St. Pathway. IGA approved waiting for time lines and IGA approval.

5) MFT Roadway patching complete - verifying contractor quatities that included extra patching from water main breaks.

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEE: 

Streets: No report by Tr. Forte

Finance/Licenser: Trustees Johnson & Ortiz made the motions to pay all bills on the 10/11/23 CLAIMS SHEETS in the amount of $100,727.34. Roll Call: All trustees voted aye. Mtn. carried.

SIGNS: Tr. Kearns reported SIGNS throughout the Village have been inspected and bills are being prepared for outdoor advertisers.  

HEALTH, SAFET_Y, PERSONNEL; No report by Tr. Ewan. 

WATER & SEWERS: No report by Tr. Wideman.

POLICE & FIRE: Tr. Ortiz read the September, 2023 EHCVFD and the EHCPD reports. There reports will be on file in the Clerk's office.

OLD BUSINESS: none

NEW BUSINESS: Tr. Keams spoke of the American Legion Post 1139 annual request for items needed for the Mantino Veterans Home. Items can be dropped off at the church in Homewood on Saturday, 11/4/23.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: ANNUAL FIREMEN'S HALLOWEEN PARTY FOR CHILDREN will be on Sunday, October 29th,, starting at 1 PM

Adjournment: There being no other business to come before the Board, Trustees Ortiz and Wideman made the motions to adjourn. All trustees were in favor. Mtn. carried. Time: 7:39 pm
