Village of East Hazel Crest President and Board of Trustees met Nov. 8.

Here are the minutes provided by the board: 

Officials: Mayor Thomas _A. Brown, Administrator Lazuka and Clerk Minnis 

Roll Call: Trustees Forte, Kearns, Johnson, Ewan, Wideman, and Ortiz were present.                    

Also present were: FD Chief Vallow, FDD pt.Chief Grant Mills, PD Chief Janich, & PW B. King, P. Newton, J. Hale, M. Fernandez, L. Dutka & Linda; Kris Szlembarski, Mr. & Mrs. J. White, Lloyd Brooks, Lola Ortiz, Monica Elsey, Rose Mary McGathey, Randy McGathey, Sue Halikins,

Invocation & Pledge. After a moment of silent prayer, Mayor Brown lead the assembly in the Pledge to the Flag.

Minutes: Trustees Ortiz & Wideman made the motions to approve the minutes of the 10/25/23 regular meeting.carried.

OPEN TO VISITORS: Tr. Kearns & Wideman made the motions to OPEN this segment of the meeting to the public. All trustees voted aye. Mtn. carried.

-Sue Halikins complained about No Parking Sign in front of KOIS' VILLAGE LIGHTS is facing the wrong way. Public Works will make the change.

-Lloyd Brooks of Homewood, Cook County Judge, introduced himself to the Board and said he would be available prior to election for information.

CLOSE: There being no other input from those present, Trustees Wideman and Forte made the motions to CLOSE this segment of the meeting. All trustees present were in favor; . Mtn. carried. Time: 7: 10 pm

Reports of Village Officials:

Mayor's Report: 

1) -RESOLUTION 23-04. Trustees Kearns and Forte made the motions to accept the Resolution allowing the Mayor and Clerk to sign the Intergovernmental Agreement with Cook County Program. Roll Call: All trustees voted aye. Motions carried.

2) RESOLUTION 23-05; Honoring the 100th Birthday of Rose Mary McGathey on 12/5/23. Mayor Brown read the Resolution and then presented it to Rose Mary McGathey. Trustees Ortiz and Wideman made the motions to adopt Resolution 23-05. All trustees voted aye. Motions carried. CONGRATULATIONS, Rose Mary McGathey. (standing applause by all those present  

Clerk: No report by Clerk Minnis.

ADM: 1) Approval to pay for the modification to the work on the Homewood/EHC Water Project. Trustees Keams and Ewan made the motions to pay for the modification to the work on the Homewood/East Hazel Crest Water Project. Roll Call: all trustees voted aye; Motions carried.   

Mayor Brown spoke of Center St. WATER PROJECT and that it will cut water rates & improve services.

2) Consideration and Approval of consulting services for accounting process Trustees Johnson and Ortiz made the motions to approve the contract for Zabinski Consulting for consulting service for accounting process. Roll Call: all trustees voted aye. Motions carried.

Reports of Standing Committees: 

STREETS: Tr. Forte Congratulated Rose Mary McGathey- 100 years! Tr. Forte advised residents to: Bum your lights!.

FINANCE: Trustees Johnson & Widema made the motions to pay all bills on the 11/08/23 CLAIMS SHEETS in the amount of $562,194.68. Roll Call; All trustees voted aye; Mtn. carried.

SIGNS: Tr. Keams .had nothing to report.

HEAL TH/SAFETY & PERSONNEL: No report by Tr. Ewan.

WATER/SEWERS: No report by Tr. Wideman.

POLICE/FIRE: Tr. Ortiz.read the October, 2023 report of EHCPD activities .. This report will be on file in the Clerk's office.

Old Business -Tr. Forte noted new hotel-Hampton Inn at 161 st & LaGrange is under Construction.

New Business: Trutees Johnon & Wideman made motions to cancel the 2nd meeting in November ( as it's the day before Thanksgiving Day). The next meeting will be on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 ..  

Announcement: Trustee Kearns spoke of the extraordinary contributions for the Veterans Home in Manteno - over $16,000

SANTA'S COMING TO TOWN on Sunday, December 17th starting at 4:30 pm. Executive Session: none

Adjournment: Trustees Ortiz and Wideman made the motions to adjourn. All trustees were in favor;. Mtn. carried. Time: 7:25 pm.
