Patricia Bonk, a candidate for House District 30, has expressed her strong stance on border security and immigration, advocating for a constitutional review concerning borders. Her remarks come at a time when Illinois is grappling with an escalating crisis as over 34,000 migrants have entered the state since August 2022.

“I think Biden needs to go back and review the Constitution, specifically regarding our borders,” Bonk said on Facebook. “Border crossings? No-I call it an invasion when 300,000 came over just in December.”

The financial burden of supporting illegal immigrants has reportedly surged to nearly $700 million in the past year. This has raised concerns about the pressure on resources and underscored the necessity for comprehensive immigration policies. State Representative Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville), who recently visited the southern U.S. border, is pressing the Biden administration to act decisively. After what he described as an "eye-opening experience" in Texas, Halbrook is urging for the closure of the border due to the daily influx of thousands of migrants crossing the river.

Halbrook shared his observations about his visit to one particular location east of town.

"One of the other stops we went to was just east of town, which was a pecan farm town; this was a stunning stop to see how they are crossing the rivers," Halbrook told The Center Square.

In response to Gov. J.B. Pritzker's 18th disaster proclamation addressing this ongoing crisis, Halbrook asserts that urgent legislative intervention is required.

Bonk's professional background includes serving as a registered nurse and working as an emergency responder and firefighter for the Villages of Lemont and Northwest Homer. She currently serves as a Trustee in the Midlothian Library Board and actively participates in Midlothian's policing committee. A cancer survivor, Bonk also leads the South Suburban Cancer Walk team, according to her website.

House District 30 in Illinois comprises the communities of Dolton, South Holland, Harvey, Markham, Oak Forest, Midlothian, and Homewood as well as parts of Tinley Park and Olympia Fields. The district is currently represented by State Representative Will Davis (D-Homewood), who has been serving since 2003, according to ilga.gov.
