City of Oak Forest Veterans Commission met Aug. 15

• Was running late.
5. Old business:
• The Veterans Commission presented Jim Watson with his proclamation at his assisted living location in Crest Hill on July 19. How did it go?
• The flag deposit box needs to be emptied again. Received city flags from public works that need retiring.
6. New business
• September of this year we will discuss with PD / FD, and administration.
Discussion with Gaelic Park to see if we should move the event to Gaelic Park.
◦ Also planning needs to start in September with First Responders.
• Department heads suggested we move the event off July 4th (busiest day for PD & FD departments and no one volunteering to work). Next year maybe Thursday July 3rd Saturday July 5th.
• For Veteran’s Day do a pre-recorded ceremony of flag burning and depositing ashes in our receptacle. Play on Veterans Day November 11 and play at Council meeting on Veterans Day.
• Planning for Independence Day 2025 picnic and concert at Park District Pavilion behind main Park District building. Need to pick a day Thursday July 3 or Saturday July 5.
▪︎ We had 375 people attend the music venue at the Park District pavilion
▪︎ We must mail the lanyards to Operation Gratitude.
