A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Harvey City Council on October 15, 2024. The request was made by South Cook News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the interest of transparency and public accountability, we at South Cook News requested detailed information about all current council members. The specific details requested include each member's name, title, year of appointment, term length (either two or four years), and the date their term expires.
The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We expressed our preference for receiving this information in an electronic format for ease of use and accessibility.
As a media organization dedicated to informing the public and holding institutions accountable, we believe access to such records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. In light of our role in disseminating information to the public, we also indicated our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We are currently awaiting a response from the Harvey City Council regarding this request.
