City of Palos Hills City Council met Nov. 7

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1) CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Bennett called the City Council Meeting to order at 7:00p.m.

2) PLEDGE TO THE FLAG: Mayor Bennett led everyone in the Pledge to the Flag.

3) ROLL CALL: Upon roll call the following Aldermen responded:

PRESENT: Price, Brachman, Lebarre, Donahue, O’Connell, Pasek, Abed, Nowak

ABSENT: Kleefisch, Stratton

4) QUORUM: Mayor Bennett declared a quorum was present.

5) READING OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES:

Ald. Abed MOVED to approve the City Council Meeting Minutes dated, October 17, 2024 as presented. SECONDED by Ald. Nowak. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Brachman, Lebarre, Donahue, O’Connell, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price

NAY: None

ABSENT: Kleefisch, Stratton MOTION CARRIED

6) CITIZENS PETITION: None this evening.

7) CITIZENS HEARING:

Mayor Bennett, the meeting is open to the public for any comments or questions.

There were no comments or questions from the public; the public portion of the meeting was closed.

8) REPORTS & COMMUNICATIONS FROM MAYOR AND OTHER CITY OFFICIALS:

A. CITY CLERK: No report this evening.

B. CITY ATTORNEY: No report this evening.

C. MAYOR: No report this evening.

9) PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, COMMUNICATIONS, RESOLUTIONS, AND ORDINANCES

BY ALDERMEN:

A. BUILDING & LICENSING:

Ald. Abed had no report this evening.

B. CITY ADMINISTRATION:

In the absence of Ald. Stratton there was no report this evening.

C. COMMUNITY RESOURCES:

Ald. Price thanked everyone that attended the Haunted Hills of Palos on October 25th and October 26th as well as the Recreation, Public Works, and Police Departments, City Officials, and volunteers.

Ald. Price announced that beginning on December 2nd Palos Hills kids can leave their letters to Santa at the Palos Hills Community Center. The Community Center will also be collecting hats, gloves, and mittens for their Mitten Tree throughout the month of December.

Ald. Price added that Santa through Palos will be taking place on Sunday, December 15th from 3-4:30pm. The route will be posted on the City website and Facebook toward the beginning of December.

The Resource and Recreation Department will be hosting the annual Veterans Day event on Saturday, November 9th beginning at 11:00am at the Community Center.

D. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:

Ald. O’Connell provided an update and announced upcoming events in which included:

• The First Responder’s Christmas party date will change. A new flyer will be sent out once the new information is available

• The Hills Chamber Christmas event and State of the Cities will be held on December 3rd at the Hickory Hills Community Center. Their annual breakfast with Santa will take place on December 7th at 9:30am at the Hickory Hills Community Center

• Amir Styles barbershop had their grand opening last Saturday

• Magical Keys will be having their Christmas Extravaganza on Saturday, December 21st at 6:30pm and Sunday, December 22nd at 3:00pm at Trinity Christian College. Tickets are available through the Palos Hills Economic Development Facebook page or Magical Keys’ Facebook page

• Avalon Food & Spirits is having their annual kid’s mini disco party on Sunday, December15th from 4:00-7:00pm. You can register on their Facebook page.

• Durbin’s is having a Christmas paint party on Thursday, December 5th from 7:00-9:00pm. Durbin’s is having Grinch deliveries from December 15th through Christmas Eve. Limited slots are available, so please call 708-598-8881 to reserve your slot

• Stagg Craft Fair is November 16th and 17th

Ald. O’Connell recognized Robert & Alexandria Peplowski of Peppo’s Subs on their first Peppo’s franchise that they recently opened in Orland Park.

Ald. O’Connell announced that three new businesses have opened in the City: Noble Wellness at 10506-08 S. Roberts Road, Gorgeous Galas at 8078 W. 111th Street, and White Sheep Café at 9000 College Parkway Building H.

E. FINANCE:

Ald. Lebarre MOVED to authorize the expenditure of a Vendor Warrant dated, November 7, 2024 in the amount of $532,017.30. SECONDED by Ald. Pasek. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Lebarre, Donahue, O’Connell, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Brachman

NAY: None

ABSENT: Kleefisch, Stratton MOTION CARRIED

F. LEGISLATION & ORDINANCES:

Ald. Donahue MOVED for consideration of An Ordinance Vacating an Irregularly Shaped Portion of an Unimproved Extension of the Sunny Creek Drive Right-of-Way South of 10841 South Christa Court, Palos Hills, Cook County, Illinois. SECONDED by Ald. Lebarre. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Donahue, O’Connell, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Brachman, Lebarre

NAY: None

ABSENT: Kleefisch, Stratton MOTION CARRIED

Deputy Clerk Ryan assigned number 2024-20 to that proposed Ordinance.

Ald. Abed MOVED to waive the reading of proposed Ordinance 2024-20. SECONDED by Ald.

O’Connell. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: O’Connell, Abed, Nowak, Price, Brachman, Lebarre, Donahue

NAY: Pasek

ABSENT: Kleefisch, Stratton MOTION CARRIED

Ald. Donahue MOVED for PASSAGE of Ordinance 2024-20, An Ordinance Vacating an Irregularly Shaped Portion of an Unimproved Extension of the Sunny Creek Drive Right-of-Way South of 10841 South Christa Court, Palos Hills, Cook County, Illinois. SECONDED by Ald. Nowak. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Brachman, Lebarre, Donahue, O’Connell

NAY: None

ABSENT: Kleefisch, Stratton MOTION CARRIED

G. PARKS:

Ald. Nowak had no report this evening.

GOLF:

Ald. Pasek provided an update from Superintendent Frazier as follows: the turf is being cut when needed, and the greens have been aerated, and top dressed with sand. The flowerbed on hole number 5 has been removed and replaced with sod. Drainage on holes 6 and 7 will be started in a couple of weeks, and the irrigation system has been blown out for the season.

H. PLANNING & ZONING:

Ald. Nowak had no report this evening.

I. PUBLIC SAFETY:

In the absence of Ald. Kleefisch there was no report this evening.

J. PUBLIC WORKS/SEWER & WATER:

Ald. Brachman had no report this evening.

Ald. Pasek complimented Commissioner Oeffling for his involvement with the Kean Avenue improvements.

10) REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES: None this evening.

11) UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None this evening.

12) MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS: Ald. Lebarre announced that September 6, 2025 will be the second Field of Honor, and noted that Police and Fire will be recognized as well.

13) ADJORNMENT:

No further business, Mayor Bennett entertained a motion to adjourn. SO MOVED by Ald. Price.

SECONDED by Ald. Abed. By voice vote, all voted AYE.

The Meeting adjourned at 7:11p.m.
