City of Palos Hills City Council met Feb. 6

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1) CALL TO ORDER: Mayor Bennett called the City Council Meeting to order at 7:00p.m.

2) PLEDGE TO THE FLAG: Mayor Bennett led everyone in the Pledge to the Flag.

3) ROLL CALL: Upon roll call the following Aldermen responded:

PRESENT: Price, Lebarre, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak

ABSENT: Brachman, Donahue

4) QUORUM: Mayor Bennett declared a quorum was present.

5) READING OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES:

Ald. Kleefisch MOVED to approve the City Council Meeting Minutes dated, January 16, 2025 as presented. SECONDED by Ald. Stratton. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Lebarre, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Price

NAY: None

ABSTAIN: Nowak

ABSENT: Brachman, Donahue MOTION CARRIED

6) CITIZENS PETITION: None this evening.

7) CITIZENS HEARING:

Mayor Bennett, the meeting is open to the public for any comments or questions.

There were no comments or questions from the public; the public portion of the meeting was closed.

8) REPORTS & COMMUNICATIONS FROM MAYOR AND OTHER CITY OFFICIALS:

A. CITY CLERK: No report this evening.

B. CITY ATTORNEY: No report this evening.

C. MAYOR: No report this evening.

9) PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, COMMUNICATIONS, RESOLUTIONS, AND ORDINANCES BY ALDERMEN:

A. BUILDING & LICENSING:

Ald. Abed had no report this evening.

B. CITY ADMINISTRATION:

Ald. Stratton had no report this evening.

C. COMMUNITY RESOURCES:

Ald. Price commented that there was a situation on 105th Street with parking near the businesses on Harlem, and thanked Commissioner Oeffling for the placement of a ‘no parking’ sign.

D. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:

Ald. O’Connell recognized our Ordinance officer, Brandon, for doing a great job, and also recognized our reporter who has done a lot of recent articles for Palos Hills. Ald. O’Connell thanked Public Works for their prompt response and hard work through a water main break during the freezing temperatures on Sunday.

Ald. O’Connell announced that the Hills Chamber is having a luncheon for $18.00/person on February 26th starting at 11:30am until 1:00pm at the Hickory Hills Country Club.

Ald. O’Connell announced that there is one new business that has opened in the City: Al Hamwai Roastery located in building G of Moraine Valley College.

E. FINANCE:

Ald. Lebarre MOVED for consideration of An Ordinance Designating Depositories of Public Funds of the City of Palos Hills, Cook County, Illinois. SECONDED by Ald. Price. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Lebarre, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price

NAY: None

ABSENT: Donahue, Brachman MOTION CARRIED

City Clerk Mulderink assigned number 2025-1 to that proposed Ordinance.

Ald. Abed MOVED to waive the reading of proposed Ordinance number 2025-1. SECONDED by Ald. Price. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: O’Connell, Kleefisch, Abed, Nowak, Price, Lebarre

NAY: Stratton, Pasek

ABSENT: Donahue, Brachman MOTION CARRIED

Ald. Lebarre MOVED for PASSAGE of proposed Ordinance number 2025-1 entitled An Ordinance Designating Depositories of Public Funds of the City of Palos Hills, Cook County, Illinois.

SECONDED by Ald. Abed. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Lebarre

NAY: None

ABSENT: Brachman, Donahue MOTION CARRIED

Ald. Lebarre MOVED to authorize the expenditure of a Vendor Warrant dated, February 6, 2025 in the amount of $411,916.75. SECONDED by Ald. Pasek. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Kleefisch, Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Lebarre, O’Connell

NAY: None

ABSENT: Brachman, Donahue MOTION CARRIED

F. LEGISLATION & ORDINANCES:

In the absence of Ald. Donahue there was no report this evening.

G. PARKS:

Ald. Nowak had no report this evening.

GOLF:

Ald. Pasek had no report this evening.

H. PLANNING & ZONING:

Ald. Nowak had no report this evening.

I. PUBLIC SAFETY:

Ald. Kleefisch reported that we received a check from Consolidated High School District 230 in the amount of $29,661.02.

J. PUBLIC WORKS/SEWER & WATER:

Ald. Kleefisch MOVED for consideration of An Ordinance of the City of Palos Hills, Cook County, Illinois Providing for the Sale of Surplus Personal Property. SECONDED by Ald. Price. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Stratton, Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Lebarre, O’Connell, Kleefisch

NAY: None

ABSENT: Brachman, Donahue MOTION CARRIED

City Clerk Mulderink assigned number 2025-2 to that proposed Ordinance.

After the reading of proposed Ordinance number 2025-2 entitled An Ordinance of the City of Palos Hills, Cook County, Illinois Providing for the Sale of Surplus Personal Property, Ald. Kleefisch MOVED for PASSAGE of same. SECONDED by Ald. Stratton. Upon roll call the following Ald. voted:

AYE: Pasek, Abed, Nowak, Price, Lebarre, O’Connell, Kleefisch, Stratton

NAY: None

ABSENT: Brachman, Donahue MOTION CARRIED

10) REPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES: None this evening.

13) ADJORNMENT:

No further business, Mayor Bennett entertained a motion to adjourn. SO MOVED by Ald. Stratton. SECONDED by Ald.Pasek. By voice vote, all voted AYE.

The Meeting adjourned at 7:11p.m.
