Gertrude E. Summers, 91, of Riverdale, IL, passed away on March 9, 2025. She was the loving mother of Linda A. Summers and Mark L. Summers and was previously married to Herbert Summers. Gertrude was the dear sister of the late Ernie Schellert and was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Elizabeth Schellert.

Gertrude dedicated 36 years of service to the Dolton Library as a Library Assistant and Circulation staff member, and had previously worked at Continental Bank. In her spare time, she found joy in crafting, gardening, and reading. Her deep faith in Jesus Christ and compassion for others shone through her actions and touched the lives of those around her. Gertrude will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 2:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Smits Funeral Home in South Holland, IL, with a funeral service on Wednesday, March 19, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Lansing, IL. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the American Heart Association or Wycliffe Bible Translators.
