Man Known for Work in Theatre Dies at 60

Dwight Arthur Childress | Smits Deyoung-Vroegh Chapel - South Holland

Dwight Arthur Childress, 60, who worked extensively in theater productions, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025, a little after 5:00 a.m. He had a history of contributing to various theater companies around the world, including notable productions like "The Lion King" and "The Color Purple". Childress was born in Chicago, IL on September 7, 1964, and later moved to Dolton, IL where he spent his formative years. After completing his studies in Electrical Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology, he pursued a successful career in the theatrical industry.

A public memorial service for Childress is scheduled for Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Smits Funeral Home in South Holland, IL. The service will also be live-streamed on the funeral home's Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to 'Habitat for Humanity' or a charity of choice in Dwight's honor.
