City of Calumet City Council met June 9

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

CALL TO ORDER The Special Meeting of the City Council was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Mayor Thaddeus Jones.

PRESENT: 7 ALDERMEN: Harvey, Wilson, Tillman (6:12 p.m.), Williams (6:03 p.m.), Gardner, Nelson, Phillips

ABSENT: 0 ALDERMEN: None

Also present were: City Clerk Dr. Figgs, City Treasurer Tarka, Fire Chief Bachert, Deputy Clerk I Jessica Coffee, City Attorney Mark Sterk, Public Works Commissioner Jericho Thomas, HR Director Deston Dorchack, Water Commissioner Gerry Surufka, City Administrator Deanne Jaffrey, Building and Zoning Director Sheryl Tillman, Deputy Commissioner Josh Brown, Deputy Commissioner Scott Nnmah.

Public Comment: None

Motion to Enter Into Close Session

Alderwoman Nelson moved, seconded by Alderman Gardner to enter into executive session at 6:03 p.m. to discuss pending, probable, imminent, and threatened litigation, employment of a specific individual, and real estate potential.

MOTION CARRIED

Executive Session The council met in Executive Session from 6:03 p.m. to 7:32 p.m.

Return to the Regular Order of Business

Alderman Williams moved, seconded by Alderwoman Phillips to return to the regular order of business at 7:32 p.m.

MOTION CARRIED

Alderman Tillman Present in the Regular Meeting

Alderman Tillman was present in the Regular Meeting at 7:33 p.m.

Mayor Jones Mayor Jones led a discussion regarding the Regular City Council Meeting Agenda for June 12, 2025. Mayor Jones requested all changes and amendments to the agenda be emailed to him. Mayor Jones also discussed upcoming events for the months of June and July.

Alderwoman Wilson Alderwoman Wilson inquired about the Chicago Federation of Labor being able to utilize the Sears Parking Lot on August 31, 2025.

Mayor Jones Mayor Jones stated he will contact Bob Rider to see how to move forward.

Approval of Use Of Sears Parking Lot by NPHCC

Alderman Williams moved, seconded by Alderwoman Nelson to approve the use of Sears Parking lot on Sunday June 08, 2025, for the NPHCC Greek organization. All insurance information and temporary approval provided to NPHCC organization.

PRESENT: 2 ALDERMEN: Wilson, Williams

ABSENT: 0 ALDERMEN: None

MOTION CARRIED

Approval of Payment and Demolition

Alderwoman Nelson moved, seconded by Alderman Tillman to approve the demolition of 610 Burnham for economic development purposes and charge the demolition to the 2023 bond matter; further direct the City Treasurer to issue payment to Holland Asphalt in the amount of $18,376.37.
