City of Calumet Health Education and Welfare Committee of the Whole met July 15

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

CALL TO ORDER The Health Education and Welfare Committee of the Whole Meeting was called to order at 6:04 p.m. by Health Education and Welfare Chairman Alderwoman Monet S. Wilson.

ROLL CALL

PRESENT 6 ALDERMEN: Harvey, Wilson, Tillman, Williams (6:08 p.m.), Nelson, Phillips.

ABSENT: 1 ALDERMEN: Gardner

Also present were: City Clerk Dr. Figgs, City Treasurer Tarka, Deputy Clerk I Jessica Coffee.

PUBLIC COMMENT None

Alderwoman Wilson Discussion

Alderwoman Wilson led a discussion regarding a unified Back to School Resource Fair for the entire City of Calumet City. Alderwoman Wilson stated this event would be similar to the Tree Lighting ceremony. Alderwoman Wilson stated all the elected officials working together on one collective Back to School event would also save on overtime costs for the city and be more fiscally responsible.

Alderwoman Wilson stated the Back-to-School Resource Fair would not only provide school supplies but actual resources for the families.

Alderwoman Wilson would like the city to partner with local businesses and vendors to execute this citywide fair.

Discussion The council participated in a detailed discussion regarding possible event dates and times and what resources would be needed to execute such large fair.

Adjournment Alderwoman Nelson moved to adjourn, seconded by Alderwoman Phillips at 6:49 p.m.
