This week in South Cook County history.

Born September 3, 1923, in city area

He was born September 3, 1923, in Bradshaw, Texas. He joined the Chicago Bears in 1944. He played offense and defense. His fierce pass‑rushing helped Chicago win the 1946 NFL championship. He played 12 seasons in the city area and earned Pro Bowl selections. He was known for his clothesline tackle called “The Claw.” After retiring in 1955, he stayed involved in the community around Palos Heights. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.
