Commissioner Sean Morrison, a public official in Cook County, Illinois, used his social media platform on September 1, 2025, to comment on recent violence in Chicago and share a Labor Day message.
In an early morning post, Morrison dismissed certain discussions as political maneuvering. He wrote, "It’s all political tripe" (September 1, 2025).
Later that day, Morrison addressed the issue of gun violence over the Labor Day weekend in Chicago. He stated, "By 8 a.m. on Labor Day, over 50 shot and 8 killed in Chicago this weekend. Yet Governor Pritzker, Mayor Johnson, and their Democrat allies still refuse to bring in the National Guard police to help our city. Why? Because they’re so blinded by their hatred of anything tied to" (September 1, 2025).
Morrison also issued a statement recognizing Labor Day and its significance for American workers. In his message he said: "Labor Day Message
Labor Day is a time to honor the dignity of hard work and the men and women who built this country with their hands, grit, and determination.
In my own family, those lessons were taught by example. As kids, my siblings and I had our Penny Saver paper routes in" (September 1, 2025).
Chicago has faced ongoing challenges related to gun violence during holiday weekends. Local officials have debated whether to request additional support from state or federal agencies such as the National Guard when incidents spike during major holidays.
Morrison serves as Commissioner for suburban Cook County. His public statements often address issues facing both his district and the broader metropolitan area.
