Robert A. Horn, Devoted Husband and Patriarch, Passes at 90

Dyer, IN - Robert A. Horn, 90, of Dyer, IN, formerly of Riverdale, IL, passed away peacefully on August, 28, 2025, at the William J. Riley Hospice Residence in Munster, IN. Robert, born on June 17, 1935, was the beloved son of Herman and Mary Horn. After serving his country during the Korean conflict, Robert dedicated 42 years to his career at Acme Steel and an additional 24 years at Walt's Foods. In retirement, he volunteered at Franciscan Hospital, showcasing his commitment to service.

A dedicated Chicago Bears fan with season tickets for over six decades, Robert was a steadfast member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Riverdale, actively contributing as a choir member, lector, and altar aide. His involvement extended to the Pinta Neri Council #1846 and Lansing Knights of Columbus Council #3540.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, children Michael, Ellen, and Julie, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and siblings Margaret, William, and Anna. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John, Herman Jr., Charlie, Joe, and sister-in-law Sue.

A visitation and funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Christ Our Savior/St. Jude the Apostle Church in South Holland, IL, with arrangements entrusted to Smits Funeral Home in Dyer, IN. Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of the Calumet Area in Munster, IN.

Robert A. Horn's legacy of devotion, service, and dedication to his family will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
