Park Forest Police Commander Julius Moore retires after 20 years of service

Police Commander Julius Moore is retiring from the Park Forest Police Department after 20 years of service. Moore began his law enforcement career in 1997 with the Jacksonville Police Department before joining Park Forest on October 24, 2005. During his time with the department, he held various roles, including patrol officer, field training officer, detective, patrol sergeant, and most recently, patrol commander.

Park Forest Police Chief Brian Rzyski said, “Commander Moore will be greatly missed. For the past 20 years, he has faithfully served the citizens of Park Forest with integrity, loyalty, and compassion. His dedication and leadership have left a lasting impact on the department and the community he so proudly served.”

Moore, a native of Hopkins Park and graduate of Kankakee High School, was known for his work in community policing. He served as a police liaison officer at Rich East High School and as the department’s community policing coordinator. In these roles, he built relationships with youth and school officials and led the department’s P.A.A.C. program, which focused on positive youth engagement.

He also served as a certified drone operator and led the department’s first drone team. Moore completed a 90-hour basic SWAT course and was a member of the South Suburban Major Crime Task Force, where he assisted in homicide investigations across the region.

Moore received multiple awards throughout his career, including 15 Outstanding Service Awards, seven Meritorious Service Awards, one Term Award, one Life Saving Award, and the Medal of Valor in 2018. He was promoted to corporal/sergeant in 2015 and to commander in 2023.

The Park Forest Village Board will formally recognize Commander Moore and adopt a resolution in his honor at its meeting on Monday, October 27. Village officials thanked him for his service and wished him well in his retirement.
