Bridgeview FD responds to 114 fires in 2016

Bridgeview Fire Department responded to 532 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the South Cook News.

The calls in Bridgeview included 114 fires - 66 structure fires, 19 vehicle fires and 24 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $358,562 in fire loss - or about $3,145 per fire.

The department also received 418 false calls, including 11 malicious calls and 407 other false calls.

The Bridgeview Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 25 active employees and 43 retired or inactive employees, was $1,608,987 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $14,114 for every fire in 2016.
