Harvey School District 152 students suspended 363 times in a single school year

Harvey School District 152 reported 363 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 363 students during the year. That equates to 17.1 percent of the 2,125 students enrolled.

Of the 117 in-school suspensions, 80 were given to boys and 37 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 117 incidents. For 61 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 246 out-of-school suspensions, 158 were given to boys and 88 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 241 incidents. There were two incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 125 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
