Dolton School District 149 students suspended 44 times in a single school year

Dolton School District 149 reported 44 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 44 students during the year. That equates to 1.6 percent of the 2,788 students enrolled.

Of the 44 out-of-school suspensions, 27 were given to boys and 17 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 44 incidents. For 23 incidents, students were suspended for 5-10 days.
