SPARTAN EDUCATION FOUNDATION SET TO HOST ‘THE RAT PACK IS BACK’

Written by Brian Frangella, OLCHS Staff Writer

Start spreading the news, Oak Lawn Community High School is hosting an exciting night of entertainment to help raise money for the Spartan Education Foundation. “The Rat Pack is Back” will be performing in the Performing Arts Center on the campus of OLCHS, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

The performance will feature Rat Pack songs of the 1950s and 1960s from Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and Frank Sinatra. Tickets cost only $35. The money raised will help the Spartan Education Foundation, which annually awards students scholarships and offers teachers funds for educational mini-grants.

“The Spartan Educational Foundation is continuously looking for opportunities to raise funding to support our student scholarship and staff mini-grant programs,” OLCHS Superintendent Dr. Michael Riordan said. “With the opening of our new Performing Arts Center a few years ago, the idea of hosting a professional music performance to raise funds was born. We connected with a musical producer and identified the ‘Rat Pack’ tribute band as an attraction that we hope will generate a lot of interest in the community.”

The premier sponsor of the event is Odelson, Sterk, Murphey, Frazier, and McGrath, Ltd. Attorneys at Law. For tickets, call 708-741-5602, go to www.vancoevents.com/zsp, or contact Maria Vanderwarren at mvanderwaren@olchs.org.

“The Spartan Educational Foundation was created in 2004 for the purpose of generating scholarship funding for graduating OLCHS students,” Riordan said. “We also allocate funding to promote innovative teaching and learning practices via our staff mini-grant program. The SEF is governed by a Board of Directors, made up of 14 volunteer members. Since 2004, the SEF has awarded more than $184,000 in scholarships to support our students as they transition to college. Additionally, the SEF has awarded $63,000 in mini-grants that supports our staff and students.”
